Sam is a bit dishonest here. But his heart is in the right place. He realizes he cannot afford the ring Diane wants so he buys a knockoff from Norm's friend. It's still a beautiful diamond, but she is so selfish she has to have the last word. I have to admit to being tired at how long this is being dragged out.

Sam is getting Diane an engagement ring. But the one she wants costs too much so he thinks of getting her a cheaper one and pretend it is the same. He has to go through a lot to hide it from her which costs him more and at the end he buys her the real ring. Only she hears about it being not the same one and throws it out of the window.
It gets harder and harder to like Diane. The cost of the first ring he got her is still huge. Nowadays I wouldn't want a ring for this price and in the 80's it must have been worse. But she is so damn greedy.I wish Sam would just dump her right there. The only fun part of this episode was Carla finally getting that Sam and Diane are engaged. And of course the usual good performances by the actors. But I hope to soon have some episodes where this annoying Sam and Diane wedding will be in the background.
