Bare with me, I am NOT a professional critic and THIS IS a biased review
Our story takes place in Metropolis and largely follows, "Barbra Gordon" (Batgirl/Babs) as she looks for her place in the world leaving Gotham City behind her, in search of new friends, new respective and aspiring "heroes", and what will ultimately become a teams resolve. Our introduction to Barbras character centers the teenage affectives as she states that what she is missing is her "team", not long after venting to her father, she arrives at her new school about as focused as she'll ever be dead set on finding this "team". It doesnt take long before she scopes out Kara, Zatanna, Jessica, and Karen. ( Supergirl, Zatanna, Green Lantern, and Bumblebee), having been able to easily discern those girls from others based on the context of their characters. Barbra thinking on her toes provokes a food fight, and "elective affinities" take its course xD, 5 of our 6 girls find themselves in detention bickering among themselves, before "Wonder Woman" (Diana Prince who has been recognized recently as nothing short of a new local hero) is escorted into the classroom in hooded robes by a Police Officer. (MY BIGGEST problem with the whole special, but this is Metropolis Police are pretty over shadowed I guess they need to say they did something.)
Shortly after its only a matter of time before the personality defectives of Supergirl and Wonderwoman clash, and pull the other girls into the fray(aside from Zatanna who cleans the mess with magic), ultimately reaffirming Barbras suspicions, and creating a bridge that unites their capabilities.
I dont want to outline this entire story just give an idea of how it kind of kicks off, because really what I would be doing is posting a text summary of the episode, which is not the point of the review.
Animation 10/10(its an easy sell, where do I pick up my T-shirt today? literally)
Story 8/10( well this is Sweet Justice but its conclusion kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth)
Characters 10/10 (found great pairs, its like the DC super hero girls took a page straight from the MLP playbook, and was lucky enough to get great VA again. Ugh I love the way Batgirl, Zatanna, and Green Lantern look, sound, know this goes with animation, but I just love it)
Writing 9/10 (You COULD definitely be critical, BUT, if you take into consideration the 11 minute time constraint per episode, its subtleties and convenience deserve an award all their own... yeah half the point is it involving "normal teenager" affectives, think some people forget why some people love these things so much)
Someone would say this isnt a good review, because it is taking the story OUTLINE out of the picture, taking the circumstances of its inception into the picture, but those are things you just have to do. I've ALWAYS preferred Marvel to DC, well now I can say not in cartoon form.... and this show actually helped me see the subtleties of my own biases, I watched it unaware that it was produced by Faust and I am a "seasoned brony" lol.
I give it the 10 because it MAKES ME WANT MORE. THIS is how you get DC on the map to two whole new demographics, because now I want more material revolving around these characters, I may even indulge the other DC Super Hero Girls just because of how well these 6 characters were portrayed and contrasted in the reboot. This show is just a really clever blend of styles, and I really really dig it, and I want more.
