A very taut thriller which takes time to start but really draws you in over the series. The apparently harmless traits of John become more severe with terrifying consequences. The fact that this is based on a true story makes it all the more horrific.

I was married to someone like John. I had more backbone than Debra, protected my child, my assets and business better, but this hit really close to home. 13 years after divorcing him, I'm still afraid he's out there somewhere, waiting to jump out from behind a car or come around the corner at a grocery store. And still I couldn't stop watching this, binged the whole thing. Bana was perfectly terrifying, even the weird voice of the actress playing Terra didn't stop me from finishing it.

Looks promising but so far nothing really special has happened. We were mainly introduced to the characters and got to the point that the two got married. But I have a good feeling that the next episodes will be really good. The characters are interesting and the acting is really good as well.
Powerful mother...too naive and unsympathetic

Yeah, sure...based on somewhat "true events" but let's get some perspective here (episode 1 only):
I'm starting episode 2 and I'm further disgusted. My own mother is great, successful, widowed, raised 5 children on her own, met a great guy years ago after 25 years, doesn't have this lady's resources...but even my mother has never allowed this insane level of intrusion. Sympathy to the woman this is based on but this show is unreasonable. Sorry, Connie Britton, you should have given this a "hard pass" :( I expected better from you.
- Excuses aside... look how he behaved at the end of date #1
- Both daughters point out multiple valid concerns and...even though one is clearly a bit entitled the other daughter seems relatively grounded.
- He's telling you to "slap" your daughter and won't let you have a private conversation when she specifically asks for it.
- Mom made excuses after introducing him as a doctor but he isn't. Nurses are awesome so why wasn't he just honest from the start?
- You "uninvited" a daughter of yours from Thanksgiving!? How can we sympathize with a mother like that? Yeah, you deserve to be "happy" but come on! You have obligations and responsibilities as a mom. Reality check.
- He clearly coerced you into marriage.
