Roundhouse coming full circle
hellraiser728 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This is another of my favorite final episodes of all time, it's also a unique one as this is a final episode to a skit comedy which most never really had. It's also kind of fitting as send offs to TV shows became more common in the 90's and became an official tradition that was going to stay; let alone the final season took place in one of the twilight years of the 90's decade so in a way this episode was one of the send off to the 90's.

Yeah, as a kid I was sad that this show was coming to an end, however when you think about it makes sense as all the cast members were getting older and what else could they have done. Also, most skit comedy shows don't all have a long-life span which is probably for the best, to remember this show for all the good times it's given us.

It's funny as we see throughout the episode Ivan is on a one-man crusade to stop the show from ending, but as we see it's a futile crusade as each of his efforts are to no avail.

I really like the last little monologue where John says, "I know how you feel, nobody wants to see anything end." And it's true with all of use who love a certain TV, Book, Comic, Video Game franchise we always want it to continue but like everything the end is inevitable, from writers wanting to move on or simply the series has run its course and has no where left to go.

There is another part of the monologue when John says, "But you have to look at the big picture, do you want to play a teenager when you 50." I really like that part of the monologue because that's also true and shows that endings truly do serve a purpose.

It's sort of like how I feel whenever a play production comes to an end, I always feel a little sad knowing this is the last day and time I'm going to do this and be with everyone. But at the same time, I feels a sense of relief because even I don't want to play the same role forever and personally after playing a role for a certain amount of time, I'm ready to move on. It's like the old saying, "Nothing lasts forever" but that's so something new can finally enter one's life.

Ivan learns all this and finally accepts it and is finally ready to say goodbye and move on. The final song the cast sings is just beautiful and another of my favorite songs in the show as it's one that isn't just a big goodbye but also a thank you to all of us for filling the house with laughter to make this show possible and for what it is, fun and funny. Once I saw John drive the motorized Lazy Boy one last time and go right out the gate, I knew the Roundhouse was closed.

So farewell Roundhouse cast, like with a lot of comedy troupes that disband I'm truly going to miss you, but your comedic legacy will live on. This is the Roundhouse coming full circle and farewell.
