Three Hours That Shook the World: Observations on Intolerance (2013)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Film historian Kevin Brownlow is on hand to discuss D.W. Griffith's epic film INTOLERANCE. He starts off making it clear that Griffith did not make the film as an apology for THE BIRTH OF A NATION. As Brownlow points out, Griffith never apologized for making that film. The historian does a very good job talking about the production of the movie, the original version of the picture, what was added to it and of course it's failure at the box office. Also discussed are the various famous faces that got their start in the picture as well as the men it would influence. If you're a fan of Griffith of the film in question then you'll certainly enjoy this piece as Brownlow does a terrific and fair job at going over the history of the film as well as its importance in cinema.
