Heartbreaker in more then one sense

Warning: Spoilers
This documentary gives us a vivid description of the Romanis life in an 'illegal' camp in eastern Europe, from the perspective of children. The documentary is beautifully filmed, and you never loose interest, even though it lacks a speaker voice or a clear narrative. It simply portrays the life of one special child, the title character, Denisa. She is a miracle of fantasy, warmth and joy. Even though she is (almost) deaf (or maybe because of this) she is absolutely present in every moment that we follow her on screen. And it is beautiful and joyful to see. This documentary can be uncomfortable to watch for many reasons; for one thing it contains some scenes where the other children in the camp act cruelly towards Denisa. It's nothing unusual but, heartbreaking to see. There are of course, hordes of other problems in the Romanis life, such as the overhanging risk of eviction, hatred from some of the 'official' citizens, poverty, lack of education and so on. This documentary though, gives us a unique perspective of the Romanis life, without IMO passing any specific judgement to anyone. This is highly recommended for it's depiction of Romani life as well as, being incredibly affirming of life. The documentary also contains some staged scenes to heighten the sense of fantastical. This confounded me a bit at first, but ultimately it serves it's purpose of communicating that a humans inner life and soul does not have to correspond with that persons outer circumstances, appearance, social status and so on.
