The Walking Dead on zero budget

Warning: Spoilers
THE Z EFFECT is a zombie apocalypse drama made of six short episodes joined together into one feature-length whole. Presumably it began life as a web series. Inevitably, as with any American zombie film made today, it looks and feels a lot like THE WALKING DEAD, except cheaper. It's fairly well shot but features all the wooden acting you'd expect to see alongside zombie action on a very small scale. The locations are quite nice and the pace is fast which is a plus.

You keep hesitating, you won't survive.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a low budget zombie film that starts in the middle of the apocalypse. No explanation is offered as to the cause, apparently film makers no longer care about that plot point, just put zombies on the screen.

The film centers on Mike (Michael Navas) and Scott (Scott Schlueter) are traveling the countryside, killing off zombies. There is a backstory that is told in a dream sequence. New characters are introduced, although I didn't know if the stories were concurrent or a flashback as people were not aware of the apocalypse, while Mike and Scott seemed like they have been at it for awhile. Mike insisted on calling the zombies "uglies." Why? I don't know. These were slow foot dragging zombies, that people have trouble keeping ahead of or stepping out of the way.

In the middle of all of this two human groups decide they need to fight.

The acting wasn't solid. The make-up needed to be better and the special effects weren't very special. The audio sometimes went into the hollow sound and then sometimes the dialogue sounded muddied as if the actors were speaking under water. Most people take a bullet to the head instead of suicide by zombies. Could have made for a good scene if they had some pig guts from the local butcher.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
