So unethical - I love it!
khaycock3 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Pay back is a b**ch and this program proves it. In a climate of litigation I am so surprised and pleased that he gets away with the trauma the pranks could inflict on the participants. I'm sure I would end up with PTSD thinking my brothers head was frozen and then smashed, or the "rapture" had occurred and I was left behind (although I would be expecting to be left behind), the thought of losing all my loved ones would destroy me. . I would definitely end up with severe complex PTSD waking up in the future apocalypse! But fair play to these participants who can take it for what it is. A very well played out prank which uses elements of magician skills to pull off. This makes me think of psychological studies that are banned or considered ethical because of the impact on the participants, and that's what makes me question this. I love it, I want more of it. But, after the initial relief that it wasn't real, would there be some long term impact on these persons pranked? And if so, how could I, with good conscience, derive pleasure from it? But I do and I did and not only that, but I'm left wanting more. A true guilty pleasure to watch.

Something different

Well made programme with great magic effects.... Watch for yourself and make your own judgement, without expecting too much. It's Fun to watch with a nice cast amd group who are clearly skilled in their field. It's gets better as it progresses and great ending of a prank!

Not sure why I have to write six hundred characters when I have summed up my review pretty well and written as much as I want to write and this show. Look forward to another season hopefully they can come to the UK. Ummm what else can I say, well I hope Arsenal dont win the league and Tottenham get fourth place in the English premier league!

Funny show, but doesn't show enough
magiciancolin2 April 2024
As a person who really loved Magic for Humans and who has met Justin Willman, this show is really weak. A few of the people in the show are a friend of mine and was excited when I saw the teaser for the show back in November. I have watched the show and it's very funny it keeps you on the edge of your seat I want the final prank is going to be but fails. The magic I do believe is real and I believe the reactions are real. But this is a reality show so you can't trust everything, as I think through the magic of editing the magic seems realer than probably what it is in person and I think the reactions are built for TV. Justin, Kyle, and Blake, a really really good magicians who have Creative Minds so their heart and their tricks are in the show but it fails to get the point across.

Too much talk, too little magic
taikuriristiharju1 April 2024
For a magic show there is very little magic in the show and most of it is also accomplished or aided by the magic of editing. They show something happening from one angle, switch angle and show something else but in reality those two things didnt happen back to back. Big part was left in cuttingroom floor. This is kinda sad since Willman has skills to do magic properly...

The whole structure of the show is very boring. Spectator doesnt care or want to watch 25min backstory and motivation in order to see the end result. This whole serie could have been edited down to one single hour long episode without missing anything.

More than just tricks
kdmice23 May 2024
I actually liked that this not only has incredible pranks but also engaging people and storylines where you care about the characters involved. Thats what separates it from other basic magic shows, which bore me. Justin uses comical superpowers to help the underdogs. Also, pranks and jokes are my husband's "love language." This showed us both that a lot of brainstorming, strategy, theatrical thinking and experimentation can develop spectacular trickery. We won't be trying anything Justin and team did, but the show inspired us. I'm pretty sure my husband has a few payback ideas now for his older brother's pranks.

A lot of talking combined with terrible acting
shay-679034 April 2024
Let me start to say im the target audiance for this i love magic ever since im little i love magic shows and tv shows on magic and i really love pranks

so how on earth did i not love this show ?

From the first "magic" that they do you could spot that the siblings are in om this and their "surprised" acting is terrible.

No camera and TV crew would waste days of shooting days of hiring directors, makeup artists locations, all of that dozens of peoples work if there is a chance that the "pranked" person wouldnt agree to publish him getting scared.

They had to be part of this or the production couldnt actually do it.

As i assume some people would said they dont want to be on the show as the pranked.

And production wouldnt take the risk.

You could clearly see by their horrible acting of the first people the fake drama.

And it only gets worse from there.

They show and talk on magic as if its 1990 and people still are golable or dont know how things are made.

They could have addressed it so much better as there is a ton of wasted potential.

They could have shown them building the "magic tricks" testing them out a bit like "myth busters" and explain how they want it to work

they could have give more time to planing the retrebution pranks.

And skip the fake spoof.

Just do it as the profuction comes to the brother and sister and tells them we are going todo prank on yoi you just dont know when and how.

I closed it at episode 1.5 and its too bad as im the target audiance for this.

Cringy and super fake
ColdBeerHD5 April 2024
I'm really impressed by how much fake this show is. They can't do even simple tricks without video editing.

There is one place where card disappears and wrist watch appears - I stopped the exact frame to see if it is fake or he's actually really quick with the hands.

You know, at least he can do that.

And... guess what? It was fake.

Guys, seriously, this trick should be easy for any actual magician without wonders of special effects.

The worst episode was the last one with hypnosis. Not a spoiler, they say it in the first minute. The episode was filled with such a bad acting, lame screenwriting and it was unbelievable how they expected us to believe that everything they show us is legitimate.

Personally felt insulted.

It was the cringiest thing I have watched in years and I watch at least one reality show per week. I give The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman two stars instead of one, because few times it made laugh with stupid jokes. I love those.

Snake oil
stiora29 April 2024
I will never understand why it is legal to sell this type of media.

If it is so heavily scripted, then why pretend its real in the first place?

Cause otherwise people would not be interested in the slightest.

I think shows that try to sell themselves as "unscripted" should be regulated.

Otherwise they manipulate its viewers in to thinking the show is real.

If they where just honest, and made it clear it was all just "a show", then they have to compete against real TV shows, with far more money, far better writing, and far better actors.

Obviously they don't do that, cause they would be irrelevant.

Horrible
gesatollah9 April 2024
Its 2024 we don't need that horrible editing and commentary style anymore. People have thankfully moved on. The viewer is not a fish brained dumbass. Horrible Acting. Unsuccessfully trying to be funny. Is this supposed to be for toddlers? The average fake youtube prank would give you a better prank experience. Horrible Pacing. Had me pissed off enough to create an imdb account in order to leave this review. I don't even like writing reviews. What a waste of resources. Barely any magic, barely any pranks. Just a bunch of people trying to be funny. Name it the Magic Garbage Show. I cannot overstate how bad it is. Save yourself the time.

Embarrassingly Bad
The-Strid10 April 2024
Others are already sounding the alarm: this "Reality" prank show is fake, and boy does it show.

Because of IMDB's character requirements, which are not needed for such an appallingly bad attempt at trying to trick its audience, I will snag another comments to meet the requirement.

There's nothing worse than a fake prank show!

Hammelbarry The show is obviously fake, which makes this unwatchable. Multiple camera angles, yet there is no camera in sight!!! Lol!!! The acting is horrible. They are clearly trying make a knockoff of the Carbanara Effect, which is also fake, but at least Michael is likeable and funny.

Thought it could potentially be real until episode 6
shivum115 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Parts of this show is definitely scripted. The introductions and buildup to the pranks are the most pathetic attempts at acting by Justin and his friends that I have ever seen. That being said, the actual pranks on the victims were at the very least slightly believable. The pranks themselves were not bad, some reactions by the victims might have been over the top and some were more calm. This is expected when dealing with a population.

Where I completely lost all believability was episode 6 where a man was apparently hypnotized and was made to fall asleep at the word "sleep", repeatedly, and woke up at the snap of a finger not knowing that he was apparently asleep. Then while sleeping he was rolled around, put in a van, driven elsewhere and happened to still remain asleep. This is just ridiculous and impossible. I don't know how gullible they think the audience is but this made me believe the entire show is fake because if you can fake one prank, you possibly faked them all. Sorry but 1 star instead of the 3 I was about to give it.

What a load of BS! Probably the worst show..
activatebhargav11 April 2024
As soon as the 1st prank is about to end... I understood that it is just a load of BS... The pranks are too bad... The actors even worse.. There is no fun watching it.. the Jokes n pranks do not land either... N the so called victims of pranks also do not know how to act!

It was a travesty. It got unbearable at one point.

The whole team of Justin feels a bit more talented in creative ideas though.. but those ideas just don't seem to land... Some of the team r just there to be on TV.

It could have been a lot better if the pranks were a bit believable or the acting by the actors spot on.. but turned out to be dud..

Pranks are lacking
a-dante-vega3 June 2024
Warning: Spoilers
When I saw the preview for this show there was a certain expectation of wow considering the addition of magic into a prank show. For any prank show or video the wow factor is to get the victim to act erratically. When a victim acts erratically that is when a show becomes interesting because it become clear that the prank is actually having an adverse effect onto the victim.

The first two pranks were good ideas but they were executed incompetently. The first prank (Frozen Head) was a good Idea you did plenty of homework on the victim but no homework on how to make the effect realistic. The second you opened the door reveling an Ice head, Common sense would tell me this is not real. First when flesh and blood limbs or parts are frozen they don't look like clear Ice. There is a bit of color and when they break apart there is the color of blood and bone. The fact that is was pure colorless ice told did not have an adverse reaction on the victim. At that point through body language I saw she was surprised but she was not convinced.

With the (AI Robot) it was the same story plenty of homework done on the victim but not enough on the delivery. For one someone who is terrified of robots and AI keeping a distance was a bad call. Was he freaked out when seemingly having his privacy invaded? By what I saw, No! All I saw was concern. A fear with distance is concerning. A fear up close and personal is a cause for concern and panic. I saw more panic from trying to get the visor on the victims head then what was caused by the prospect of an AI Android. In fact the so called scientists should have referred to the robot as an android. Keep in mind the guy being pranked is a highly intelligent person. A robot is a mechanical machine built to accomplish human task. It is a broad term and usually a robot looks nothing like a human. An android is specifically a robot with a human appearance. If you want to trick a highly educated person you may want to use convincing words.

2 stars for good idea, negative eight stars for executing those Ideas with extreme incompetence.
