In the early 1980s Fraser is still cutting his teeth at the prestigious law firm Edwards & Baros. The only problem is, the clients he's bringing in are hardly prestigious stock.
Fraser struggles to keep Dennis out of jail. Dennis wants Fraser to work for him exclusively which is a problem when he finds out Fraser's representing a local biker gang muscling into his territory.
Dennis' empire crumbles around him while Fraser defends his friend against a pub shooting charge. Fraser's sure he can beat the charges but his biggest challenge is keeping the witnesses safe.
With two young constables murdered, Melbourne is turned upside down. Fraser calls publicly for calm but to many he seems to be taking the suspects' side causing animosity between him and the police.
Following Dennis' death, Fraser represents his younger brother Victor only to find himself involved in what is still known as one of Australia's most cold-blooded crimes.
Fraser's been caught red handed using and giving advice on an importation of cocaine. He believes he'll get a 6 month suspended sentence but the judge hits him with seven years in maximum security.
Fraser has set up his own legal practice but the glory days are over with only low-paying cases coming to him. His marriage is in tatters and all he seeks is the next coke high.
After Victor and cohorts are charged with the police killings, Fraser builds a defence plan with his team of lawyers but has to contend with a hostile witness and starts leaning heavily on cocaine.
Fraser's coke usage is out of control. He continues to work but he can no longer hide it from his friends, colleagues and now clients, causing him a lot of strife he can't control.
