Life after Crossroads.
Sleepin_Dragon4 February 2024
After her shock sacking, life goes on for Molly, she tries her hand on the stage, and gets to travel a lot.

Nolly finally gets to learn the reason why she was sacked, in the most unlikely of places.

It's an excellent final episode, I enjoyed it so much, that I had to binge watch the whole thing in one night. This final episode didn't disappoint. I didn't think we were going to learn the reason for her sacking, but we do.

Less funny than the previous two episodes, more dramatic and more revealing, Davies got the script spot on.

That scene where Nolly opens up her heart to the rest of the cast on stage was just fabulous, and it was so wonderful to see the brilliance of Helena Bonham Carter.

I loved that scene where Nolly and her company were arrested, she seemed to have a riot after finishing on the show.

It's definitely made me want to go and check out a few episodes of Crossroads, I'll be reviewing the first episode known to exist.

8/10.

Good showpiece for Helena Bonham Carter

This is the story of Noele Gordon's demise as the star of Crossroads TV soap. It shows her time on the Crossroads set and her behaviour almost as if she was the director, then the real director getting his revenge by getting her sacked and then the aftermath of that event, and then her unfortunate early death.

I thought that Helena Bonham Carter put in a fantastic performance as Nolly though to my mind she looks too young and to some extent too attractive to play Noele Gordon in her 60s.

The story was a bit pedestrian and my partner gave up watching it half way through the 3 episodes. I thought it was a good watch but won't be recommending it to anyone else.

What Nolly did next

This is very much the 'What Nolly did next' episode of the three parter, and while it all becomes a bit of a rushed affair towards the end, this remains another good episode of the mini series.

Overall it's been a good affair, and I'm sure ITV will be chuffed with it. It's on ITVx as well, in case you haven't noticed from the seemingly endless promo.

Helena Bonham Carter has held it all together wonderfully, and while I'm not totally convinced by the casting, who else was there?

Russell T Davies could never be described as being a subtle writer, so does whack us over the head with a few points repeatedly, but on the whole I enjoyed this series.

Episode 3

Before Eastenders arrived on the BBC in 1985. Set and made in the more media friendly London area.

ITV soap bosses were very protective of their brand. Granada had a motto that no one was bigger than Coronation Street. When actor Stephen Hancock wanted more pay not for himself but other cast members on the Street. His character was killed off.

When popular actors left the soap, hell hath no fury if they gave an expose to the press before they left. Actor Fred Feast who played Fred Gee on the Street, had a low key exit after a gentle tell all story to the press. He had announced he was leaving the soap but a big send off eluded him.

In that background, if Noele Gordon was too big for her boots, too difficult to work with. The ATV soap bosses were not going to put up with it when Crossroads were struggling in the ratings.

The real reason Noele Gordon left was men. With one studio head who had enough of the negative stories emerging from the producers of the show.

In that sense the final episode was underwhelming. After 40 years, I was not too fussed about the reason Nolly was sacked.

The final episode was about Nolly dealing with life after Crossroads. Doing the musical Gypsy in regional theatre and later taking it around the far east and middle east.

It all culminated in a one off return to Crossroads in an episode shot in Venice.

Helena Bonham-Carter brought a lot of spirit to the role but she looked too young to play Noele Gordon.
