Quite surprising
nikitamedianik12 July 2023
What's unique about this show is its ability to linger on personal, emotional moments and reveal Fury as a man who fights his whole life, not knowing where fate will take him. Because of this script, the show occasionally has valuable and well-played moments that show Nick in a way we haven't seen before - a vulnerable man who hides fear behind his determination. The moments with his wife are beautiful, his interactions with other characters like Talos and Rowdy are portrayed with a humanity that doesn't smack of pathos. The final action scene has its silliness, especially since Fury is a wanted criminal, but none of the soldiers even think to apprehend him. But otherwise it's a very dynamic battle, and I'm mad happy with the use of practical effects, and the graphics that are there look convincing. However, 30 min? Are you out of your mind? I hope the final episodes have a timeline of at least 50 minutes.

The First Actual Decent Episode
MamadNobari9712 July 2023
After some not-so-much highs and very low lows, Secret Invasion gives us the first actually interesting and engaging episode, but unfortunately and unsurprisingly, it's only 30 minutes.

So I ranted a lot in my previous episode's review about the writing of that episode and the decisions the writers made, but I'll take it back with the opening of this episode. The last episode is still a filler and a nothing episode, so I'm not changing my stance on it being a bad episode.

This whole episode feels better and is more interesting because the dialogue got way better and scenes between Fury and other characters are written and directed in a more engaging way.

Although I would still say that this is the type of episode that would and should happen in a show with way more episodes, I think it still had its impact and I was invested in every scene, especially Fury and his wife.

Though I gotta say, this episode would've been way way more impactful if we actually knew anything about Fury's relationship with his wife beforehand. So the impact is lessened to a much smaller degree since we don't really know this character, just like Maria Hill in episode one.

I also wish they did the first poem scene happened in the previous episodes and not 5 minutes from the next scene it was referenced. But you can't really have a good characterization or character arc when you have all these characters and only 6 episodes to introduce and wrap up your story. Though I will question the baffling decision of the showrunner to not have 6 one-hour episodes that you could at least squeeze more characterization and storytelling into it, instead of your third to last episode being only 30 minutes. Of course you can't do much with this runtime.

It's also funny that there have been more character and dialogue scenes in this show than action, but this is the first time I'm actually engaged in their conversations and dialogue. The action in this episode is also pretty engaging and decent and they at least tried to make it look interesting.

Though I cannot help but once again feel like these Skrulls are any different than Flag Smashers. They don't really feel like the super aliens they actually are. The show might as well have been about a random human terrorist group they could've pulled out of comics and it wouldn't have been any different than Disney Plus' Secret Invasion.

There isn't much secret invading happening in this show. They don't really do much interesting things with this narrative device they have. They have a really cool premise and they could use this in a million interesting ways but it's like you're watching a regular show about Fury with not so much interesting things happening on the antagonist side of the story.

Again, this episode is by far the most interesting this show has been and is a pretty decent balance between dialogue and action and the pacing is pretty good. But even if you hated it, at least it ends pretty fast.

Obviously, they couldn't get much bigger actors from MCU in this show, and also if they did, it would've been pretty obvious that they could all be Skrulls. But that's the most disappointing thing about this show, that it's a show.

I wouldn't recommend watching this show weekly at all and I would wait for it to end and watch it all back to back if I haven't had seen it by now. And when you see it back to back instead of weekly, you'll recognize its problem in writing and characterization way better and you see why this isn't really working.

Overall, it's a decent episode and probably the first one that hasn't been outrageously boring or awfully written. And it's not a really good thing either for the show that only consists of 6 episode and the first half has been a dud.

S01E04 - Too short with 2 episodes to go
frank_ack12 July 2023
The first 3 episodes were setting the scene nicely. They went back to the basics that launched the MCU; gritty meaningful characters and intriguing story arcs with which the audiences could connect.

Secret Invasion needs to be the Marvel production that reverses the downward trend of the drivel they have been producing since their peak at Infinity War and Endgame (Loki being the obvious exception).

However, the offering in #4 is rushed, way too short and does not challenge the audience in any way - apart from the obvious and mundane question of how it will end.

Unless #5 and #6 are each 60 minutes long at least, there can be no way this series can come to either a meaningful and satisfactory conclusion or start to restore their previous level of storytelling.

Deep & Intense
SHU_Movies12 July 2023
This episode has stood-out to me as the best so far. Although it's the shortest in length, it's got amazing character growth, some deep and intense interactions between characters, great performances, a solid script, some nice reveals, and a really good action sequence at the end of the episode

I think this episode, and the show as a whole, could've definitely been better. I am really enjoying it, and it is better and more unique than most of the bland superhero content we've been getting recently, but it had the potential to be a spectacular and thrilling event that gets people talking everyday in between episode. It's just not what I was hoping for

That said, this episode is really great. It's got a lot going for it, and it's definitely my favourite of the four so far. Hopefully they can keep this up for the last couple episodes.

"And did you get what you wanted in this life, even so?
guapo_andres12 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I did.

I really liked this episode a lot. It's weird to watch a Marvel show where the best are the dialogues and the acting.

What a great scene between Fury and his wife knowing they might try to kill each other and still they remember that poem and the love they feel for each other.

We've known Fury since 2008, and watching him broken was priceless. The face in Samuel L. Jackson said it all, Fury is now totally broken and he lost his best ally. Every plot is getting way more chaotic and I'm really interested on how Fury's gonna solve this out.

The action was not that great, but the acting and writing was. Every time this gets way more paranoic and I can't wait for next week. This one has been the best so far.

Why so short?!
elias-3401312 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How does one of the biggest franchises in the world on one the biggest streaming platforms have such short episodes. For the first time I was really enjoying secret invasion only for the episode to end after 30 minutes. I mean seriously come on Disney and Marvel! It's such a shame and feels like a waste of time when the credits just roll just as I'm getting into it. What happened to television! Where did all the 45 minute minimum runtime shows go? They've done it again by killing off a big character then just ending it there. There's no suspense or emotional moments because they're just taken away or cut out. I don't feel anything because the show doesn't let you.

I had to rerate the entire Show
info-354-54955913 July 2023
I have to be honest at the beginning i absolutely hated this show but kept watching because its been a slow tv month and besides watching warrior this was to be my action fix while i waited for foundation.

I was really surprised by this episode it had me on the cusp of my seat every moment, it went from the boring slow grind of characters i could barely care about to now me being invested in every moment of action going on. I am not sure what the writers did with the first few episodes but this show seems like it may be getting better so im in here and ill keep watching i hope this keeps going the way its going.

Strongest episode yet
harry-3451812 July 2023
Secret invasions first three episodes whilst decent have been a bit patchy some scenes were phenomenal some were awful. This is the first episode where I felt not a single scene felt weirdly written or directed in fact this episodes short running time might be it's biggest strength- every scene is intense and it runs well with the shows growing conflict. And they topped it all off with a thrilling action scene and another huge cliff hanger. Several scenes here especially between nick and his wife were amazing and very intense. One of my biggest issues with the show at this point is that it feels a bit cheap the cgi, sets the budget we had for the older marvel shows like wandavision and Loki are long gone and whilst it's not the shows fault you can tell.

Very Short
essessr12 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This was best episode so far. Not because of the action but the ending scene, it changes everything. But the episode felt very short and it could've been longer. Things moved faster in this episode but still finally something worth watching from Marvel.

Lets just hope the upcoming two episodes won't be a disappointment and will be longer than this episode.

Gravik is so far my favorite character in this series and he completely deserves this.

What was missing in this episode was a little more conversation between Talos and G'iah. It's obvious G'iah character will be a highlight in the upcoming episodes.

A real step up from episodes 1-3
oisinblake12 July 2023
The balance between softer dialogue and fierce action works perfectly, this episode keeps you hooked from start to finish. The opening flashback scene is a great way to set up conflict that we see later on and I feel through these 4 episodes we've seen a much more indepth dive into Nick Fury as a character than in any previous marvel project. Samuel L Jackson once again manages to show a great range of emotions in his character and this is worth watching alone The final few minutes are very griping and we get to see fury face an extreme test. The villains also have standout moments. Has me very excited for the rest of the season.

Short & sweetish like aspartame.
crizz-4767415 July 2023
You can now see, how this could have been a good movie. But instead stretched it into a slow boring TV show.

This episode was quite short, so moved at good pace with things actually happening.

Still seems too litte too late. Fury is still a pale shadow of his former self.

As for the skull story line, it just gets more convoluted as time goes on. Their motivation to kill us humans. Is just childish and frankly stupid.

It needs to make it's mind up, dark political thriller. Or cappy kids show, where anything is possible and there are no real stakes.

Marvel seems to want to ruin all of its characters.

The mcu is dead.

# Secret Invasion Episode 4 Review
ergo-5853412 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Secret Invasion is one of the most thrilling and suspenseful shows in the MCU, and episode 4 delivers a shocking twist that will leave fans reeling. The episode, titled "Beloved", follows Fury and his allies as they try to stop the Skrull insurgency led by Gravik, who has gained superpowers thanks to Extremis. The episode also reveals the true identity of Rhodey, who has been a Skrull all along, and the fate of G'iah, who survived Gravik's bullet and became a Super-Skrull herself.

The episode is full of action, drama, and emotion, as Fury confronts his former lover Priscilla, who is also a Skrull, and tries to save President Ritson from Gravik's attack. The episode also explores the backstory of Fury and Priscilla, and how their relationship ended when she was replaced by a Skrull. The episode also shows the conflict between Talos and his daughter G'iah, who have different visions for the future of their race.

The episode ends with a heartbreaking scene, as Talos is killed by Gravik in front of Fury, who is forced to leave his body behind and escape with the president. Talos was one of the most likable and sympathetic characters in the show, and his death is a huge loss for Fury and the audience. The episode also sets up the final showdown between Fury and Gravik, who are now both driven by revenge and anger.

Secret Invasion episode 4 is a masterpiece of storytelling, with excellent performances, stunning visuals, and a gripping plot. The episode raises the stakes for the finale, and leaves us wondering who else is a Skrull in disguise. The episode is streaming on Disney+
  • I give this episode a 9/10 rating for its superb execution and shocking twist.

  • This episode proves that Secret Invasion is one of the best MCU shows ever made, and I can't wait to see how it ends.

  • If you haven't watched Secret Invasion yet, you are missing out on a thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Deadly beloved
Trey_Trebuchet19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I wasn't entirely in the mood to watch more of this when I threw it on, so maybe my rating will go up if I ever rewatch it. Because this is the best of the four I'd say.

I feels weird to be watching something that's consistently good but still doesn't have me super excited to watch more each week. Maybe I'm just used to the basic formula Marvel Studios uses in Al lord their movies and shows.

I do like the screenplay. This series is actually doing something different with Fury and it isn't NOT effective. The wife storyline was concluded in maybe the best way it could have been. I DID genuinely think this was the real Rhodey this whole time, so that reveal was actually a bit surprising.

I also wasn't expecting Talos to die. He and Fury are kind of the best part of the series for me, so I'm curious to see what I'll think of the remaining episodes.

I'm so over Marvel using fake deaths that the intro with G'iah getting back up didn't quite pack the punch it maybe should have. I can see why they left that on a cliffhanger last episode though.

All in all, still pretty dang good. It has a decent premise and a decent villain.

Now people are getting it straight & gave this ep an 8(almost)
Even so, after a "Tarantino's mexican stand off" between Fury (yeap, you read right:not Nick, not Nicholas, just Fury _with his toasted bread not sliced on diagonal) and Scilla(no spoiler, please) folks stil believe this is a mediocre show?

Really?

I say you something: if this show wasn't a marvel product, instead some primevideo with the same cast and producers & writers, you all 'd gave a 9,(but not by this episode in particukar because the big "boom! Are you waiting for this this?" revelation was kind of a boomer).

Or ins't it?

Is the "revelation" deeper that it seemed to be?

Let's wait the next 3 eps.

Even so, i'm still thrilled .

(And expecting all of you forget this AI hysteria and raise this great show grades).

Mama wants it go 8,5 next week.

Intense Episode But So Short! [8/10]
panagiotis199317 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Secret Invasion Season 1 Episode 4: Episode Three was good and I gave it a rating of 7.5/10. Only 35 minutes? What's up with that? And Giah is alive, that's good. Rhodey wants Fury dead? What? Why? Is he a Skrull or something? Wait didn't Fury know that she is a Skrull? Got a bit confused. Yeah Rhodey is a Skrull. But how long he's been one? Ok I will admit that having Rhodey being a Skrull just made things a lot more interesting, cant wait for him to get exposed though. Gravik attacks the president? Damn, i didnt expect that. Such cool action scenes! Gravik stabbed Talos, what is going on!? No i love Talos! This episode is so damn short! Only 30 minutes if you exclude credits etc but also it was really good. My rating is 8/10.

Nothing really good about this one
Mesina0214 August 2023
I'm quite so-so on what this show has become and by now I've just began to accept that there's nothing it can do to make it better.

I'm not really sure what's hindering this show from reaching its potential. Fury is fine but I just think that every character is barely watchable. I mean this show grapples on the idea of trust and betrayal but they just don't move forward with that and just keep it at a minimum.

Everything that they've started with from the first episode is not being sought out enough and this is the third last episode. Fury is still trying to get help but is barely getting any and Gravik's revenge plot is just there without any sort of deeper analysis too it.

Nick Fury is back
moviesfilmsreviewsinc21 December 2023
Marvel has announced the death of Skrull Talos, a character introduced to the MCU since the Infinity Saga. Ben Mendelsohn, known for his acting prowess, will be the lead of a new TV series called The New Look, which will air on Apple TV+. Mendelsohn's Australian lilt and disheveled demeanor will be missed. The episode "Beloved" from Secret Invasion, named after a section of Raymond Carver's poem "Late Fragment," features Nick Fury's wife Priscilla (Charlayne Woodard) as a fan of Carver's writing. The loss of Talos, killed by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), is upsetting as the pair have been working together for decades. Talos made it clear that Nick's success would not have been possible without his Skrull friend's help behind the scenes. Talos is a beloved character not only by Nick but also his daughter G'iah (Emilia Clarke), who used the Super Skrull machine to get some Extremis juice in a flashback. The twists in the film are not great, and even those who are regularly shocked by twists may find them surprising. In Secret Invasion, G'iah, a Skrull, is criticized for believing humans will accept the Skrulls as friends and allow them to live in harmony. She believes that Gravik's approach works and that her time with Gravik's faction has changed her perspective. She stays by Gravik's side out of familial obligation, but when she finds out Gravik has killed Talos, she reassesses her values. Skrull Rhodey, a Bad Skrull, is assigned to move the US President like a pawn on a chessboard for Gravik. After a visit from Nick, Skrull Rhodey assumes Nick's joking and glugs the tracer into an expensive tipple. He then turns up to attack the President's motorcade half-cut. Real Rhodey would never do this. The short but slow episode ends with a scene where Nick and Talos try to rescue the President from Gravik's attack. The effects and action are solid, but the nature of the fight between Skrulls and humans dressed in dark colors makes it unclear what's happening or who's winning. This leads to confusion, and the audience is encouraged not to think too hard about the situation. Secret Invasion, a Marvel Comics series, has two remaining episodes, with Nick still tasked with stopping Gravik's faction, bringing the President to safety, and fulfilling his promise to find a new home for one million Skrulls. It's unclear whether this year's The Marvels, featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Fury, marks the end of Fury's time in the MCU. Jackson's fun-filled work in creating these stories is unlikely, as three quarters of the episodes have ended in shocking deaths. Despite the series' success, Secret Invasion hasn't been a must-watch TV show, and its twists have been criticized. The final two episodes are expected to take the slow burn energy and make a real impact.

The acting is top-notch and everything else is in second gear
justserag11 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The acting is top-notch and everything else is in second gear

  • Despite a corny dialogue, Samuel L. Jackson and Charlayne Woodard deliver a stellar confrontation scene

  • Don Cheadle is at his MCU prime with this episode

  • Brian Tucker may be good at dialogue, but terrible at scripts

  • All confrontation scenes are great, and all Fury scenes are delivered masterfully by Jackson with his confrontation with Rhodes being a show highlight

  • The final battle sequence makes you wonder what's so secret about the invasion in the first place

  • Ben Mendelsohn gives some moments to remember as Talos

  • The VFX is poor to passable.

Secret Invasion likes to close its episodes it was G'iah in the last one. However it turns out she was a Super Skrull and is resurrected at the beginning of this one.

An action packed finale with the life of the President of the USA in danger. It leads to another death, a Skrull tries to save the life of the president. To show that Skrulls and humans can live together.

In between this short episode goes for character moments. There are two of those.

Nick Fury never realised that he fell in love with a Skrull back in 2012. Priscilla took the guise of a dying human and played the long game.

Fury also goes for another head to head with Rhodey. This time knowing he is a Skrull and he has ordered Priscilla to kill Fury.

The personal interactions worked well. On the other hand the action sequences looked cheap for something labelled as big budget. So did the short running time.

The best episode yet...
zawandxoshnaw15 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's definitely the best episode of the series till now without any doubt... Not showing Gaya's supernatural powers in the previous episode was really clever by the director. It was the most beautiful idea in the series or I'm sure it shocked us all. While i was waiting for actress Emilia Clarke to appear as her real person version, but she had back with her scroll and shocked us all from the beginning!! In the beginning, this series was really unbelievable it deepened me in all the dialogues. It all really depends on the writer. They were trying to kill each other at the same time, but thinking about all the memories and stories The love they had...! Why do I think this episode was perfect? I was waiting for such an action scene the whole series because at the very beginning of working on the series, director Ali Salim said the series is action and science fiction and as we all saw what action he offered us as well... I think the next episodes will be much more interesting These last two episodes gonna be great because we saw that Gaia and Gravik both have supernatural powers and Gaia may still support the Scrolls, but if she finds out her father died at their hands? Even better, does Gravik have time to give all the other Scrolls supernatural powers?... Then this episode was at the top for Nick Fury. To thinking that James Rhodes was a scroll, even most of viewers noticed Nick Fury only by gesture from the third episode Danny's nod made the viewer understand the subjects The first sacrifice to save the earth and humanity by protecting the president and sacrificed Talos is more heroic than most of the current heroes. Finally, what remains to be seen is what happens in these two episodes. I'm sure it will be very unique because of the revelation of James Rhodes and we're sure that Gaya knows about her father's death.

Then the important point of this episode was: (When did James Rhodes Become Scrolls?) The answer to this question is not easy to go back to Kevin Feige's words a few days ago, "One Of The Avengers Was Scrolls For a Long Time." And we found out it was James, but how since when? Unfortunately, He didn't mention it. But for many theories that since the character of James Rhodes existed in the Iron Man films hired by H. Y. D. R. A or S. H. I. E. L. D to protect Tony Stark, this answer is not very convincing ! My theory is that maybe after Civil War, when he was badly wounded, a doctor's scrolls or something went to the hospital and killed him, or maybe he just took his place and didn't kill him because a James Rhodes' movie is coming So rhodes' death is difficult, but he still might be dead if he talks about his past. But if it's right now, No. The film will definitely be about Rhodes being replaced by a scroll, which will definitely be unique but if the true James Rhodes isn't gonna be in these two episodes The end doesn't appear... Because even if he's been mixed with humanity for these few years, he's not as mixed as he is Since childhood, he has sacrificed them to his people and supported Gravik... Or after End Game or the Falcon and Winter Soldier serie, James Rhodes may have been captured or killed by Scrolls. The scrolls must have been in power for a long time! Why is it because we remember him being so affected by Tony Stark's death that he wouldn't have cried so badly if he had been a scrolls! It's a Really wonderful writing !!!

The weakness of the film was that this episode had a very short time, less than 30 minutes if you count it all, even this episode would have been tasteless if added to the useless things, but we also needed more dialogue between Gaia and Talos, her father Offer us something beautiful to fill the time ...I hope the next two episodes will be much longer and take revenge!!

"I give it 9/10 in the end. I hope it gets better. I don't see the series and the episodes being extended too much.

The idea of making a show like this, where everyone could potentially be your enemy, is the perfect spy thriller premise. So despite my constant disapproval of the show's small scale, it was probably always the only real way to tell this story. And it's not like they haven't been setting it up to be told this way. However, they did say that some people we knew were definitely going to be Skrulls and that it would be shocking and change all the MCU forever. A few things in this episode were neither shocking nor game-changing, but simply predictable and a few were quite dull.

This episode finally gave us a little taste of that game-changing brew they've been cooking up. And while a certain reveal in the episode was effective to a certain extent, it was also highly predictable and didn't have the particular shock effect that the writers probably wanted it to. The show has a lot of the right ideas, but it lacks real finesse in its work, and ends up with half-cooked reveals like this that doesn't surprise a lot of people, because the show never really tried to be impactful. And I'm sure the people who worked on this did their best, which is great, but when there's no intrigue involved in a spy show, it loses a lot of its luster. This episode seems to have been a little scatterbrained with a focus on a lot of different things in what felt like the show's shortest episode so far. There are certain character choices that doesn't make a lot of sense, and while they manage to come in with an ending that kicks a punch and provides the show's best action sequence to date, it comes with a lot of stupid moments, including a final act by Gravik that's just telegraphed and as fake as a lot of the CGI in the franchise has been lately. Samuel L. Jackson, though, does continue to shine with a great performance, although some of his reactions in this episode were laughably out-of-place. This show is lacking a clear direction and it's starting to really botch it down.

"Beloved" is a shorter episode than we're used to and it's also the most unfocused one so far, with the shifting character focus being annoying. It has some good moments - like a standout action sequence at the end - but some of the writing in this is incredibly poor and starting to affect the show's pacing.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a little bit better, we at least got some signature Marvel violence and a fight scene near the end. We also had another exposure of just how ridiculous these shows are because Gravik got shot in the head and instantly regenerated so how do you ever stop him? Why would he need to hide when he could just do that all of the time?

We also had another "death" that we will see if it holds up or not during next week's episode.

This episode salvaged the show just a little bit, but overall I think that Secret Invasion was simply not planned out and they thought the star power could oversell a bad story.
