Less talkie, more toonie!
rjmulligan31 March 2021
So happy to have real cartoons on television again! The only reason this is not 10 stars is because of the sheer amount of time in between them. If you are going to have a commercial break between every cartoon there is absolutely no reason to do a skit before and after the break too...

Good cartoons, but with generic hosts.
smithcheyenne-0119816 February 2021
I enjoy the old cartoons, but unfortunately you have to deal with Bill and Toony the tuna. There's really nothing interesting about the "cartoon curator". If you look at Metv's other show, "Svengoolie", the host is fun and flamboyant. Bill however just looks like some random guy you would see on the street. Even the set is nothing impressive. It's basically the two main hosts standing in front of old tv's stacked on top of each other.

Needs a whole lot of work and revamp.
dabach-2594621 July 2023
Needs a better host, creative thinking, I would be embarrassed to air this on my TV station. Get rid of Tooney, Mr Green Jeans he is not. Not even bunny rabbit. From Captain Kangaroo. The host comes across like a limp spaghetti. They try to be funny, but it falls way short of it. I could come up with better entertaining material without giving it much thought. Revamp the show or just show cartoons without a host. Where did you find the talent you got? Just yanked them off the street. I could suggest some ideas, but why should I do that for free. Don't know how many people are involved in running your station. But you sure need someone with talent.

Fun to watch with my nephews
lcramer-144196 January 2021
It's a fun show to watch with my nephews. They love Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry. Others are new to them.

The cartoons are well chosen classics. The host is fun. And I have an affinity for puppet hosts. The kind of show that's made for me.

Round of Applause
wadebednarick18 January 2021
I like the banter among the host and crew. It brings a refreshing effect while watching the cartoons. Many (and maybe all actually) of the cartoons chosen are older than I am and I remember thinking that Popeye for example, was not as good as the others maybe because of color vs black and white. But now I see that they really worked a lot into those and I am way more impressed with the artwork. The crew is like a cross of Svengoolie and Mystery Science Theater 3000. They do pay tribute with having a Svengoolie test pattern on one of the nineteen televisions. I'd like less of the most played cartoons because the 'toons that got most re-run time were a bit homogenized/pasteurized with the artwork. I'm a fan of artwork. I'm a painting artist. Thanks and well done everyone!

Love the Show
pastor-662702 December 2023
My wife and I enjoy the show every weekday morning. I wish Bill and Tooney hosted Saturday Morning Cartoons too. Brings back great childhood memories for us. The cartoons today suck. Thankfully the good ones are still around. Like Bill's trivia too. Tooney is funny with his love of donuts too. It would be neat if at Christmas, Bill and Tooney hosted a two hour Christmas Cartoon festival so we could watch that. The skits are cute too. Miss Goldie Fisher on the show. I wish they had Sunday morning cartoons too so we could enjoy rlit even more. Toon in with me is how we start our day. We watch Saturday Morning Cartoons faithfully.

Awesome Cartoon Show and I LOVE The Hosts!
verbusen16 September 2021
It's funny how people have to hate on cartoon hosts and would rather just watch the cartoons alone. I'm guessing these are the same people that hated late night horror hosts in the 1950s for interrupting the Dracula or Frankenstein movies. And, if you look at modern horror hosts (like Rifftrax and MST3K) that talk OVER the film making jokes, these same people go ballistic on IMdb that they are ruining the "great" 3 star sci-fi films they show. Are they showing their ages as being grumpy old people? There also seem to be multiple reviews hating on the only woman in the cast, Leila Gorstein. Really? She does remind me of Fran Drescher which is a love her or hate her actress because of her annoying New York accent doing The Nanny. FYI, she's doing mostly obnoxious characters to play off of Bill and Toony. Leila's definitely an asset to the show for me, watch her do multiple roles and tell me that her Boxcar character isn't flat out funny (definitely a tribute to Lucy Ball playing a hobo)! She also does an environmentalist activist role in a funny way so these reviewers may have opinions on that and maybe a mob of people talked to each other to bad mouth this show on IMdb because they are environmentalists (but never actually watched the show). My opinion is that the hosts of this show are pretty awesome and greatly enhance these 70+ year old cartoons. At first viewing I didn't know what to make of it, thinking the show was geared for mostly kids but after watching it for over a month it grew on me, I realized that the host skits are actually pretty funny for kids AND adults! Plus, the hosts are doing some great trivia about the cartoons just like horror hosts do which I find very entertaining. If you are a Baby Boomer like me (and where MeTV's audience is mostly from) you are going to LOVE how not only are a LOT of these cartoons not the ones you watched dozens of times on the Bugs Bunny/ Road Runner Show, but a ton of stuff that was probably never shown on TV before! Plus, remember watching all those old worn out film prints on TV as a kid? These all seem to be remastered in HD! Bye bye film scratches and bad sound! My rating, 10 of 10. Pass the word to your Baby Boomer friends who still like cartoons to set their DVRs because this show needs to stay on the air, I love it!

Could be so much better

If Bill is truly a comic maven..it would be a positive if he could give us insight to the cartoon such as the history of Tex Avery or Chuck Jones and Hanna/ Barbera

Perfectly corny!!!!
sony-3798419 July 2022
Bill and Toony are relatable. The supporting cast members (Hobo Lady and Mr. Quizzer) are incredible and I enjoy their humor. The skits are super corny which makes me "toon" in during my morning workout.

Bill and Toonys' humor is dry and silly and not aimed at kids which is fine. The skits and cartoons aren't either - Also fine. The cartoons take we older generations back and Bill gives us some insight into each cartoon. And that's the plan, Stan!

I can't understand the bad reviews. Some folks don't have a sense of humor which is really important in this world.

8 stars out of 10 merely because there is room to grow.

Watch it for the 'toons
monsunotk14 June 2021
I used to be in a animator ID group on Twitter and this show premiered during the group's heyday. I do have a few complaints about this, but the good does outweigh the bad at times.

I can honestly care less about the skits, but I did find myself letting a chuckle out a couple of times when the joke actually lands. The jokes don't land very often and you find yourself scratching your head at times at the execution of the skit in particular.

As for the cartoons, I think they're a great addition to the MeTV library. One minor complaint is that I would like to see a bit more variety outside of the Warner owned properties and as of now, the DePatie-Freleng cartoons owned by MGM. I do want to see some Walter Lantz shorts pop up in the near future, or even some cartoons from Universal's library syndicated alongside the Warner owned properties such as Looney Tunes and the Popeye shorts.

Overall, the skits are lacking a bit, but they do come across as watchable. The cartoons surely make up for the skits, and the program is worth a watch if you're just here for the cartoons. 7/10.

Tooned in for sure
jayjay217187 April 2021
People are complaining about the host and the puppet but hey if it means I can watch classic cartoons I will let them talk. I mean to see looney tunes characters and Tom and Jerry etc. All the classic cartoons it's worth it. It's great that MeTV is showing this only thing I wish is that it wasn't only 7am-8am. I mean I appreciate it. But a few other slots. Maybe in the afternoon or night wouldn't help. But maybe that's the Saturday morning cartoon kind of vibe just would be nice to have more options.

Classic Cartoons Aside

Think of Toony (my favorite skit character out of all the original characters on the show) and gang as MST3K lite

Not enough cartoons/ To much skit
seniorblaylock23 January 2021
I enjoy the cartoons wich is why I watch it. I however find myself changing the channel or doing something else when they have the skits on. I didnt tune in for extremely dry "comedy". If the skits continue after tbis month I will most likely watch something else and just buy cartoons to watch.

I really enjoy the variety of cartoons really brings me back to the late 60s early 70s as a kid. I think the hosts are doing a good job people need to lighten up it's supposed to be Campy I mean people are taking this way way too serious they need to either go to the gym or watch the newsBecause it's so refreshing to enjoy the cartoons and not what's going on in the world.

Back to the days of thoughtfully made mornings
buster103315 January 2022
I'm working from home since March of 2020. Bill and Toony and their wacky cat start my day with giggles and damn good cartoons. It goes without saying kids will love this too!! I miss the old kids shows with local hosts. They introduced me to good cartoons.

If you miss Bozo or in my case, Clancy and Carmen, sit back and enjoy. I love Bill and Toony is so adorable. The crazy lady is far from annoying. Funny, talented people.

Keep me happy. Think like a kid, even just from 7 am to 8!!!

What a refreshing show!
austin-338403 December 2021
This reminds me of shows I watched as a kid in the 90's. The humor is great. Corny but right up my alley. The recurring characters are fantastic. It's nice to see some old school cartoons without the new age politics. My kids really enjoy this series!

doveworx30 August 2021
Miss Goldie Miss Goldie has to go .How can we have such a great cartoons. And her in the same show??? But love your old cartoons. Love that they're in great condition.. Wondering if you can get your hands on some Harvey toons. Butter scotch and soda. Supreme court. Casper too. Veggie vaudeville. And candy box review. Harvey tunes have a lot of old great classics to draw from. Also would like to see more pop by the pink panther.

Get rid of PINK PANTHER!!
ptwsmfdf29 March 2022
All the program is great for all with one exception - Pink Panther. Birch style comedy cartoons are not for kids and not for me either!! They stink and aren't very funny either. More Popeye cartoons and can the Pink Panther please!!!

Much better now
dekahu15 July 2022
Since they got rid of all the other characters the show is much more enjoyable. Bill and Toonie are great hosts. Hope they keep it this way. I agree they could show at least one more cartoon but at least we get to see the best cartoons ever made.

Another case of the "Good Ole Days" that never were
Grimm-Grimm16 February 2021
1. I see lots of harsh reviews. It's supposed cheesy! I'm surprised that the most requested content on MeTV is cartoons. They seem to have acquired better sponsoring than Svengoolie.

Let's stay in perspective, keeping with the traditional show host and old content ala cheaper licensing syndication packs marketed to local tv stations on a low budget. As famously done with Hollywood Horror Studio films.

Face it, as kids we watched the old bugs bunny cartoons for this reason:

IT WAS ON! WE HAD LITTLE IN CHOICE!

Saturday cartoons, which were of higher quality, with the best theme songs, were in the 80s. These Merry Melodies with Mel Blanc vocal characterizations are not. The only good ones were smart thinking like Wile E Coyote and the factory episodes. Bugs and Elmer, Tom and Jerry chasing beating each other up was monotonous.

Watching it is good for a nostalgic feeling and at least here it's curated for an hour so the worst junk can be avoided when possible.

As for those concerned with "Political correctness" already complaining just-in-case, save-it for when real censoring is an issue or dump the routine altogether. Sometimes junk is junk and it's avoided because it was creepy junk even as kids, and now ever so realized more.

FACE IT FOLKS, they were creepy awful even when we were kids. I hate when things turn into a political argument of who and why is attempting suppress the content in question. (Boy the politicians and media certainly know how to control their defenders) when in actuality we can probably agree that judging on the content alone, it was awful creepy junk by weirdos getting their rocks off.

Lose the remote control already
barneyoneill19 December 2021
I'm sure the forces behind this poorly conceived program feel they have their audience and can ignore any naysayers, and it's unfortunate that some comments are less than kind to the actors on the show, but this really reaches the point where it's not even a matter of opinion. The presentation that MeTV has chosen to reintroduce the greatest cartoons of all time is a major disappointment. The recurring sentiment in the reviews is spot on: Shut up and show the cartoons already. But even more important than that is that they actually be given the most pristine presentation at the same level Turner Classic Movies gives to the world's great movies. But unfortunately for all his introductory trivia, Bill the Cartoon Curator is no Robert Osborne. And the fact that somebody came up with the idea of him working the remote control to start each classic cartoon, causing a staticky glitch to mar the start of every one of them, and that they stuck with that all this time over the show's first year, shows once and for all that nobody on that show gives a smurf about the greatness of some of the best movie art that ever was, the source of so much of our fondest TV memories, and the only reason any of us turned up to watch this turkey to begin with. Ruining the first seconds of a cartoon really wrecks the experience of the whole thing. And using Svengoolie as a model for the format really lowers the bar from the start for anyone who cares about these great films. MeTV got our hopes up, they promised us the cartoons that hadn't been accessible on a daily basis like this for too long, but by putting this claptrap gauntlet in front of them and then even ruining the cartoons themselves, it's more like our cartoon heritage is being held hostage more than anything else. They may feel they own the cartoons, but they really have just been placed in the entrusted role of seeing the legacy of this great work is carried forward as it should be for the limited time this show will be on the air. Sadly, it is a trust that they have broken, as their responsibility toward the cartoons themselves is a major fail. So, Bill, I'm not trying to be mean when I say this, just stating what any sensible person should agree with: Lose the remote control already.
