Staccato: A Composer's Notebook with Bill Conti (2006)

*** (out of 4)

Bill Conti is interviewed for this featurette that has him talking about his thoughts on what should go into a score and then he gets into details about his work on the film ROCKY. Conti talks about how he got involved in the project and mentions that several people were questioning his techniques throughout the recording of the track. Conti goes into details about many of the key parts of the score whether it's during a tender moment, a loud moment and of course the building up of the fight scene. This is another good featurette that appeared on the ROCKY special edition DVD release. At just around ten-minutes, this featurette does a pretty good job at explaining what Conti was trying to do with the score and one really begins to understand the emotion that he was trying to give to the film. He also talks about how the current ending in the movie wasn't the original and he felt that the director decided to go with this ending simply because of the powerful score.
