Hunters And Fishermen Make Their Own Game
boblipton24 August 2020
Here's another bland but well-meaning RKO Sportscope about how the Carling Sports Club works to restore habitat for game -- that is, game they can hunt.

It shows the hunter as someone who loves the wildlife, particularly the edible sort: trout in restored streams, deer in woodland the club members helped replant, ducks in swamps restored from mud flats by hard work; and the NRA helping to teach gun safety. Remember that part of what the National Rifle Association does? They still do.

Another commenter has called this "bland". That's fair, but it's bland in a reasonable, rational way that seems to have vanished, at least temporarily.

Another Bland Sportscope

Sportsmen at Work (1954)

** (out of 4)

Another bland entry in RKO's "Sportscope" series, which often takes a look at people doing their job in a wide range of sports. This time out we see some conservationist as they work to try and make sure that hunters and fishers can get their hands on the best fish and animals. We see the group as they go out and make sure that the trout are populating as they should and in order to do this they often have to clean out ponds, create new streams and sometimes they have to build fences so that farmer's cattle don't get into the water. This series is often credited (mainly by myself) for taking mildly interesting subjects and delivery boring stories. Perhaps it's the bland narration or perhaps the subject matter just doesn't warrant its own feature but either way this movie doesn't work and even at 7-minutes the thing seems way too long. Another problem with this thing is that it's so poorly made that it really does seem as if the studio just got some stock footage together and threw it together and then made up any story that they could out of it. None of the cinematography is all that impressive and in the end you're left with a short that not too many are going to find interesting.
