It picks up and is fun starting with episode 3. Wanda and Mike Epps exchanging zingers are the worth waiting for. It's fun, give it a chance.

Some good laughs and potential to be a great comedy

After the debacle called dad stop embarassing me (jamie fox) it was refreshing to finally have a good comedy with a cast who knows how to bring jokes over to the public and this is 50%thanks to the writers of this show.
People do not believe the negative reviews of trolls, this is definetely not o bad show and will be even better in the second season.
Give it a chance.

Way better than the new Netflix Jamie Foxx Show!

This show is surprisingly very funny with relatable content. With a star-studded cast, everyone is holding their weight and all equally funny. Even the child actors are great! Which I hardly see in newer sitcoms. Very great show.
Pleasantly surprised

Mike Epps , Wanda Sykes, and Kim Fields fit together so well and play off one another so well. The cast is great. I've watched it two times already, Three Heavyweights who know how to flow with the writing and cadence of each other will create something fantastic, please watch this show, its great.

Warning: Spoilers
Huge fan of The Upshaws and the cast is amazing especially Mike Epps &
Wanda Sykes characters battle each other like Fred Sanford & Aunt Esther in the 70's and Martin & Pam in the 90's. I really enjoyed last season episode when Marsha Warfield guest starred as Bennie's Mom. Those two killed it. I hope very soon in the future that this series will do six or seven more seasons with an amount of episodes that they can complete the series. Especially, Marsha Warfield playing Bennie's Mom again in one of the upcoming episodes maybe if they have a family reunion episode.
Laugh Out Loud Funny. More Upshaws.

Laughed all the way through!

im hoping this show gets way more meta

It feels like this show only could work on Netflix, and challenge the status quo that most sitcoms have. Especially about sitcoms with dead beat husbands that constantly gaslight and take advantage of their spouse.
The things he does to his wife would never fly by in real life. So for his wife to have the final straw in the middle of the season, it hits too close to home.
I'm curious to see where this show goes.
Plus, it's legitimately funny lol.

It is hard to tell what to expect when Netflix is coming out with a show like this, and we could argue that they do leave us hanging from time to time, but this show was IT for me.
It's light hearted, but tackles serious and relatable problems, and questions. Most surprisingly for me, it's not always Mike Epps & Wanda Skyes, the other actors - including the children! - are just as well factored in.
I had a really great time watching all 10 episodes, not equally good of course... but good nonetheless, in my opinion.

Ok. I wasn't for the first 2 episodes. The baby mama drama was so "typical" and a negative stereotype (yes most have truth to them). Oh and I really don't like the way they family treats Kelvin. He has nothing to do with the parents"situation". After that, they addressed important family / relationship issues. Thus saving it for me. I watched all10 episodes in one seating. I enjoyed it.
Disappointing.

I'm a huge fan of Wanda Sykes and I enjoy a good formulaic multi-camera sitcom, but The Upshaws just fails to hit the mark.
The plot lines and scenarios come straight out of every 90s sitcom (albest spiced up with more contemporary elements such as stripper poles at a kids party) and the language is a bit fruitier than you'd expect to see in a show like this, but it doesn't work for me.
Loser dad, wife who is too good for him and holds every bad thing he has ever done over him, the crazy, interfering neighbour/relative... it's all there.
I even swear I've seen the set in another show before.

This came autoplayed on Netflix after I fell asleep. When I woke up I ended up watching a few episodes, at like 3:40 in the morning. It's actually pretty funny. I think a lot of the negative reviews are folks who just hate sitcoms. I think we'd all have a better idea of these things of people who hate coffee didn't feel the need to review coffee shops, if ya know what I mean.
LET'S DROP THE BLACK GHETTO/POVERTY STEREOTYPES
mssmishas14 May 2021
I am honestly tired of seeing these negative stereotypes portrayed. The "baby mama/father", poverty stricken, jail bird, loudmouth etc narratives paint a picture we need to leave in the past. We already have a number of those we do not need anymore.
Let's see some black excellence. I want to see well-spoken, educated and wealth black people being portrayed instead.
This is not even funny, uninspired, overdone and low budget. It's embarrassing that these actors/actresses accepted these roles. DO BETTER!!!!
