Rarely do I swear at the TV...
songod-9500319 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
...but the ending of this ep certainly made me!

I mean it is all good... just have to wait till NEXT MONTH to see what God has to say to Sam and Eileen! Oh I have no doubt Dean and Cas will find the super powered root they are going to Purgatory to find (no problem... been there before!) but what does God have to say face to face with the man who shot him and his gal pal?

Do I fear for her? Sure do. Like so many occult shows the characters in it do not get happy endings or stable relationships. She is so perfect for Sam which is the main issue. That is almost a giveaway that she is doomed. God could be wanting Sam to see Eileen become a pile of dust just to emphasize what will happen to everyone close to him and Dean. Hearing it could happen and seeing it happen are two very different things.

With Sam heart broken and demoralized he'll not want to continue; no matter what the spell Michael gave them would do.

Well now...

Warning: Spoilers
Yes. I gave this ep a 10. I hardly ever do that or comment on individual eps. This season has been a little weird...but I've put in 15 years, so I know it's going somewhere, and I gave it a break.

##SPOILER ALERT## But this ep...the new Michael / Adam arc...I am digging where this can go. Queen Rowena, which really...we all knew was gonna be a thing-love it. Chuck in Donatello was fun. If you didn't see the Eileen trap from a mile away, your either new or blind. BUT....perhaps it will go someplace interesting.

And of course....the spontaneous alternate world ribbon that no archangel was ever creating before is now a thing, so....there's that.

At any rate....I enjoyed the hell out of this episode. Excellent mid season finale.

Exciting Stuff!
Adam-0926514 December 2019
The pot is stirring and the tension's building, my highest 9 rating this Season.

There is no filler here, the story has escalated even more, to help beat Chuck old enemies have become allies and forgotten places have become the next plan. God won't put up without a fight, the bigger the fear the bigger the destruction. The boys know it. It was nice to end the episode on a cliffhanger, it makes me even more excited for the next episode. I guess we will find out after New Year.

Definitely a few ooohs and aaahs in this one.

Favorite episode in this season without a doubt. That shows how good Richard is when he directs the two best episodes this season. Also welcome back "our" Michael, he has been missed. Also when Dean apologize to Adam towards the end, that was some touching scene :( Great to see Lilith, Rowena and Donatello back! Yeah, this episode was wonderful! 10/10

RETURN TO FORM
reynoldswraptpe13 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As someone else mentioned in their review, this has been a weird season of Supernatural- which is more than a little disappointing for the final season. The pacing has felt wrong. The first 3 episodes were surprisingly lackluster for being a new apocalypse and the tension really didn't kick in till around episodes 4 and 5. Then they dialed it back again for 6 and 7. But this episode? This was a true return to form.

From that twistedly funny opening with the poor server girl walking amongst a plethora of dead bodies to serve Chuck a drink in the casino I was hoping we'd be in for a treat and I wasn't wrong! From there, we got the boys figuring out Chuck has a weakness or else he wouldn't have created failsafes such as the demon and angel tablets (excellent way to bring back some middle season lore!) and realizing with the help of Donatello that Metatron had made some notes in the margins about God telling his "dark secret" to his favorite at the time- the archangel Michael. Unfortunately, since Donatello is a prophet, essentially the voice of God, this makes him Chuck's bluetooth speaker. Chuck warns them that if they attempt to use Michael against him he will go after Jodie, Eileen and literally everyone on Winchester speed dial. The boys decide Chuck will kill them anyway eventually just to torment them and decide to try and enlist Michael's help. This leads the boys and Cas to hell where they unsuccessfully battle 3 demon chicks (Dean shouting "are any of us winning?" had me in stitches) until the new Queen Of Hell, Rowena(!) calls them off and helps the boys locate Michael- who is no longer in the cage after Chuck's apocalypse opened all the doors to Hell. Along the way, she tries to get Dean and Cas to work thru their issues, which will hopefully finally get resolved in the midseason premiere. But Michael's no longer in Hell at all. He and Adam have become bosom buddies after 10 years spent in the cage and are still sharing Adam's body as they eat a burger and pizza and contemplate their next move. Enter Lilith, who gets vaporized for trying to force Michael to answer God's invitation for a meeting (is she really gone tho? Cause that would be kinda disappointing honestly. I wanted the boys to have the pleasure of finally killing her the right way). This use of his archangel powers puts him on Donatello's radar and, with help from Cas, they lure Michael into a trap (sidenote: Richard Speight Jr. is an excellent director. The whole trap scene is shot in such a badass style). With enochian cuffs to keep him from teleporting away, the boys and Cas ask Michael for his help stopping Daddy. But Michael, who refuses to believe God could have lied to him about literally EVERYTHING, isn't having it. He gives Adam control of their shared body to tell the boys as much and then genuinely seems to mean it when Dean says there's nothing that can make right the fact they trapped him in the cage for 10 years and he tells Dean with sad smile on his face "You could say 'I'm sorry.'" Michael and Adam have a back and forth with each other in yet another exceptionally directed scene where Adam admits that yea, the Winchesters trapped them in the cage, but they pretty much always do things for what they believe is the right reason- and 9 times out of 10 it IS the right reason. He posits that maybe God is having a "mid-eternity crisis" but Michael just can't bring himself to entertain the notion of betraying his Father. Needing to cut thru the bs and get Michael on their side, Cas hits Michael with the hard truth- he was never God's favorite. No one was. Lucifer was the only one smart enough to see that (how messed up is that revelation? More of this please, as it throws the whole series into chaos that really makes you think!). They have a scuffle and Cas uses the contact to forcefully show Michael the events of the past few years with definitive proof of Chuck manipulating them all. This breaks Michael for a brief time as he realizes the extent of God's lies. "I'm not even the only Michael" is the devastating thought that finally convinces him to help the Winchesters seal away God (they can't kill him, lest all of Creation crumble into nothingness. Damn, show! Like I said earlier, more of these lofty ideas!). He gives them a spell and a list of ingredients for it- all of which are easy except for one: a Leviathan blossom that can only be found in Purgatory. Meanwhile, Eileen was hit up by a fellow hunter named Sue who is looking for help taking down a vampire nest. Since Eileen and Sam have been getting close, she let's him know what she's heading out to do and he decides to go with her. Good thing too, as it turns out Sue is just Chuck in disguise! Honestly, I did see that twist coming from a mile away but it was one of only 2 minor quibbles in a truly awesome episode. The only other quibble being Michael just conveniently opening a 12 hour portal into Purgatory that looks identical to the rift into Apocalypse World. You know- the world that Michael just found out existed and nearly broke his psyche? But whatever, it's all worth it for the final exchange where Dean asks to speak to Adam before Michael leaves to find his own path away from God. Dean tells Adam they are truly sorry for leaving him locked up in the cage and never coming back for him, saying he's a good man who didn't deserve it. Adam smiles wistfully and says with zero trace of malice "since when do we get what we deserve?" And with that, Dean and Cas get ready to travel to Purgatory to find the Leviathan blossom (and hopefully fix their friendship) and the show leaves us on 2 incredibly ambiguous cliffhangers until it returns in mid January. Damn...

I love a good emotional rollercoaster and that's exactly what this episode was. Light on action, sure, but it wasn't needed. This was a perfect cocktail of drama, humor, tension, and remorse. The return of Adam did not disappoint. There were so many ways they could have gone with this storyline, but this was by far the best choice. My faith in the show has been renewed for what must be the 12th time or more over the course of its 15 year run and I am genuinely excited to see where the back half of this season goes. Please iron out the wacky pacing issues that plagued the front half of this final run and let my faith be rewarded!

Passable
Kingslaay28 February 2020
Not a bad episode in SPN, the word steady comes to mind. Yes it was eventful with Rowena and Michael (Adam) returning. But at the same time it is the final season so the pace and events need to pick up. One thing they have got right is limiting the story to a few central characters. Not adding a lot of secondary weak characters. I say if they've served their purpose give them a royal finish. Still alright and look forward to the next one.

Loved it!

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, finally we get to the third brother, glad they finally brought him back for the final Season, he grew up nicely and has an amazing Michael voice.

Finally we get to see what was it actually like in the cage with these two we always though that Adam was a chew toy for Michael, they ended up being best friends.

We can but feel sorry for them both, all they wanted was a family and to be a part of something, yet they were overlooked.

Purgatory, lets go! We get to see maybe some lost characters in Purgatory and to see Dean back in there with Cas let the bonding begin.

Michael is my favorite angel, he has so much power and i love it, i especially liked the diner scene with Lilith. Now we see why it had to be with the help of Michael to lock up Amara, we also get to see Rowena, kinda knew she would be back, She always does.

Chuck's prediction, he will probably kill Eilen and Sam would just wanna give up or get it over with, Dean comes and saves him and finishes the story for good. This season is just getting better and better and i cant wait for the next episode. Summary: Loved it!

Don't think the season will recover
jtwire20 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am now watching the episodes only because I have spent 15 years watching this show, which has faltered badly at points but generally came back in time for me to think "ok, might be worth one more season".

In this case, the writers have given up and I don't think there is time to recover. After they killed Rowena I thought, ok, so they are bringing back barely memorable characters but at least they are killing some off, this might focus the writers a bit.

But no, Rowena is back and they are expanding the part for the barely memorable characters. Castiel and Dean, often the highlight of the show, are having a multi episode tiff where they both get moody and don't talk. Yeah, needless bickering and moody looks, that was always the highlight of the show . . . oh wait, no, that was the parts where I would consider giving up on the show because it was so stupid.

At least there is a break now. Maybe I won't go into the next one soured over where they are at and maybe the writers will figure out what makes the series great. Sam, Dean, Castiel kicking and taking names. Not sure who these characters are this season, but at least I can console myself that there are only 12 episodes left and, after 15 years, I might just make it to the end in that case.

This was a good episode. I'm glad they brought back Rowena and I'm happy to see the Adam storyline addressed. Also, Sam's relationship with Eileen is cute and I like the new look of Hell. The only problem I had was how easily Sam, Dean, and Cass were defeated by three demons when they first entered Hell.

Warning: Spoilers
We knew the cage was opened and now they try to find Michael. Michael didn't know about other worlds? Seems strange. I think at this point we can say that the french mistake was just a fever dream. I did like seeing Michael back. Lilith's dead? He agreed to help too easily. I don't even know why they want God locked up tbh... Rowena was fine... I have a hard time believing she became queen and likes it. I think my biggest issue is how simple the spell is... Really...

Not happy with this series finale so far
victoriatreadwell29 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a die-hard supernatural fan for 15 years, disappointed to the max with the lazy, lost-idea writing in this series finale. If you want to keep bringing people back why not Crowley and Lucifer. They were the best characters killed off. Enough already bringing everybody back. I cried when Rowena died, then she's back. Chuck is just a stupid character now... not impressed with him and he's not even convincing enough that he's God. He's worse than what Lucifer had ever done, so we're supposed to believe that demons are better than God himself. Can you say boring too. Dean mad at Castiel, still, Sam falling for the deaf hunter... oh yeah brought back from the dead! Bring their mom and dad and grandpa back while you're at it. Where's Bobby too. Are you going to end the series that Dean or Sam actually have been dreaming all these years and are happily living with wives and kids. Disappointment from every angle of this show now. Thanks for ruining what could've been the best series finale and good luck making up for it. I gave 5 stars only because going lower would've felt like I cheated on my husband. Which btw we would along with my mother get together to watch our favorite show every Thursday but this season we wait for 2-3 episodes to build up on the DVR. No rush to watch this show anymore.

Mediocre filler
larosaj-2666614 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Wow the drooling fans have lost their weak minds. This episode sucked hands down. Absolutely nothing substantial happened except for the return of Roweena. The fan drool is strong with this one. The chick beat down was pathetic. All 3 guys didn't score a single hit. Chuck meandering and whining, also pathetic. This season continues to deteriorate. At least only 12 more to power through and a month break from the sheer tediousness. Well now onto The Expanse; a real solid show.

Please No More Saileen
joshuakiehl3 January 2020
Overall this episode was not as disappointing as the last episode before. They brought back Rowena which is good because she's one of the more interesting characters of Supernatural. However, it seems like the story is heading to a more serious relationship between Sam & Eileen and more separation for Sam & Dean... seriously?? What the he*l??

I think maybe the showrunners thought that the majority of SPN fandom want Sam & Eileen to be together. I have to say, they made a huge mistake.

Look at the numbers, the actress who plays Eileen only has less than 50K following on IG/twitter. That's the real number of Saileen shippers. There are many SPN fanpage account with more followers than that.

Sam's fanboy/fangirl does not equal Saileen shipper, because Saileen is more about Eileen. Real Sam fans are hurt because Sam deserves so much better than Eileen.

Keeping the Sam & Eileen pairing is only making this final season look like a cheap and stupid fanfiction story. They have zero chemistry together (and the actress can't act) and watching them makes me feel sorry for Sam. He deserves so much better than that (Jessica or Sarah are a thousand times better than Eileen). It only make Saileen shippers (less than 50K) happy and the rest of the fandom must torture themselves to keep watching the show.
