I did find that they were more sympathetic to the woman who stole the baby than to the mother who was left for all those years not knowing what had happened.

Interesting perspective of kidnap

Kudos to Lifetime for making an African American true life story showing all the imperfections. This is not a buppie version of an abducted child story. The characters have real problems and including jail and abuse etc. The kidnapper isn't a sympathetic character.
Despite finding out the truth the girl in question loves her kidnapper mom more than her birth mom who she doesn't know at all.
One fault is the way the revelation came out. And the flashbacks to the trial were confusing and distracting.

Great acting, horrible storytelling

I like Niecy Nash as much as the next person. She really does give a good performance in this role. But a great actress does not makeup for a terrible story. They have taken that Chris Rock joke and turn it into an entire movie. Chris Rock once told a joke about the family member who molests you - but pays your way through college. THAT's what Lifetime has done with this heinous KIDNAPPER in trying to tell us a sympathetic story from her perspective. No amount of trips to Disneyland with a nice soundtrack can make up for the horrific crime she committed. And yet that's exactly what Lifetime wants you to believe. So why not go out and kidnap somebody else's child so you too can have the baby you want? This is horrible on so many levels.
A Confused Child

Warning: Spoilers
This story was heartbreaking. Kamiyah Mobley grew up to love Gloria Williams, the woman who kidnapped her, and was truly torn with the expectation to love her biological mother. The confusion is notable; some may have been on the kidnappers side because of Kamiyah's love for her. Yet a crime was committed. Maybe, if Shanara Mobley, the biological mother, could have tried harder to hide her hatred for Gloria Williams (the kidnapper), Kamiyah could have bonded with her. It's a really sad story that is compelling, dramatic, and realistic. As it relates to cast and billing the actress, Ta'Rhonda Jones was not given any credit for her portrayal of Shanara Mobley. Hopefully, this was an oversight.
This story is trash

The way this story was told and portrayed was trash. She should have gotten more time. That girl at first didn't even want her actual family rhat was enough to drive a mother and father insane. Searching for 18 years just be turned away by a brainwashed kid. This movie pissed me off so bad especially because it's a real story. Doesn't matter the age of the mom or any of that. There was no excuse to be given to stealing ones baby. That woman is not a good woman because of what she did those ppl lost their baby possibly forever doesn't matter her pretending to be apart of both sides. She said it best herself.
Heartbreaking

The woman loses her baby which is sad but then she steals someone else's. Then she tells the girl years later when she tries to get a job.
Instead of the normal reaction the teenager says she wants to keep the secret and stay with her kidnapper. Then she refuses to go with the police and defends the kidnapper and trashes her real mother. Then in court with her mother crying she sits there staring at her with cold eyes angry.
Not of this would happen even with a trauma victim which I am. You might feel bad for your abuser or kidnapper but you would not act the way she did. I know if I found out my mom did that I would be pissed at my mom and not be okay with it. Dumb and in no way could this be a true story. If it is that teenager needs some serious counseling for more than being kidnapped.
