So often, pilots are episodes that everyone feels "well, it's fine, it establishes characters but it's not great". - NOT the case for this show.
Both segments are perfect distillations of what makes this show so compelling (to both kids and adults alike ... me being the latter and perhaps enjoy it now even more years later).
The first segment Downtown as Fruits shows how the show can insinuate the dangers of living in a big city as a kid (drug deal gone wrong... ballsy) and closes out showing Arnold's heart of gold.
The second episode expands on Arnold's well-meaning nature in a comedy of errors - nothing can go well for Eugene despite Arnold's best efforts, but it still ends in a heartwarming note.
Looking forward to rewatching the rest!
