Where's Charlie? (#7.5)
ComedyFan201024 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Miles gives Rose a ring. But when she gets home she sees that all the cantaloupe in the fruit salad is on one side of it. This is a sign her and Charlie agreed on to communicate from behind the grave. Then Sophia also plays a trick on her and makes Rose think that Charlie doesn't want her to be with Miles. But later she decides that it must be the opposite.

A common ridiculous story about the sweet and naive Rose. Sophia was so bad! Just like Dorothy I really can see the temptation though.

Blanche's baseball guy story was alright too. He was indeed very funny in that blue dress and pearls. Not like a real cross dresser would be!

Blanche knows very well the type of teasing that goes on in a locker room.

Warning: Spoilers
While Estelle Getty is very funny here, she's also very mean in trying to convince Rose that her late husband Charlie, has taken over her body to communicate with her through a bowl of fruit salad that she ate. Rose is convinced that when Charlie makes an appearance to talk to her, he will show her a sign through cantaloupe being on a particular side of the fruit salad. Even Dorothy is aghast by her mother's behavior even if Rose's naivete does make her understand the desire. It's hard to watch Sophia being this way, simply just to get $20 out of Rose, but fortunately, Dorothy nips that in the bud really quick. Then there's Blanche's issue with baseball player Tim Thomerson, giving him her underwear to wear for luck which brings out a fetish in him that is hysterically exposed in the last scene. Both of these plot lines are amusing if not believable, although Dorothy's line about Steve coming in as himself but leaving as Edie is very funny.

This episode sucks

Dorothy needs to get out pent-up feelings about her Pa while Rose is contacted from beyond the dead by Charlie, just as Blanche helps a baseball player with his batting average.

Lame episode. Nothing really funny here. The Blanche /Baseball storyline is lame and not funny. Similarly is the desperate storyline about Dorothy and the letter. The only semi-interesting storyline is the ring given to Rose by Miles. There was some funny bits in the scene when she's given the ring, but the other scenes where Sophia pretends to be possessed by Charlie were so stupid. Rose is dim-witted but she's not a total imbecile. This episode is worth passing over.

Blanche? Coaching baseball?

Since when does Blanche coach baseball? And why? What makes her qualified? I absolutely love Golden Girls but this storyline, imo, was just ridiculous and asinine and doesn't even make sense.
