The UFO Story
Jimmy_the_Gent413 December 2020
Peter and Bobby see a UFO in the backyard.

Another lesser Season 5 episode, a rehash of the much better Season 4 episode "Fright Night". It turns out it was just Greg fooling his brothers with a fake flying saucer. Bobby has a dream sequence where he meets some aliens from outer space, they played by little people Frank and Sadie Delfino, they both also appeared on a funny Odd Couple episode called "The Odd Father". A real life NASA astronaut Jim McDivitt appears, he says he saw a UFO on one of his Apollo mission. Classic film character actor James Flavin shows up as a skeptical Air Force captain.

THE GREAT BRADY UFO CAPER!
tcchelsey13 December 2023
Comedy sitcom master Peter Baldwin directed this cool episode, a total of seven for the series. Peter was one of the great tv directors, heading such shows as CHICO AND THE MAN, BOB NEWHART, TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT, many others.

Beware! Aliens!

Robert Reed, who quit the show a few episodes later, claimed he did not like the stories. They really were not that bad, and from a teen's point of view back in the day, lots of fun and relatable as in this case. We all remember talking with our science teachers about the possibility of aliens. Those were the best classes.

Pete and Bobby see some strange stuff in the back yard one night, especially after watching a tv interview all about UFO's. It's slightly creepy fun, and Chris Knight and Mike Lookinland play their roles well. Frightmare time on a Friday night.

Veteran character actor James Flavin, in one of his last roles, plays one of the miltary brass who stops by the Brady homestead to set matters straight.

He has a goofy scene with Alice, carefully watching his every single move...

Look for famous dwarf actor Frank Delfino and his wife as the aliens. Actually, Frank was a "stand in" for Mike Lookinland on the set. He gained fame in the 70s playing the McDonald's Hamburgler in tv commercials and was in dozens of classic movies.

Interestingly, production notes indicate Barry Williams has a bandage on his lip due to a minor car accident, though I always thought he probably had a cold sore. Barry did admit, in a previous episode, he had been smoking "something" prior to filming a scene. Could this be related? The mystery continues to this day...

10 STARS for all us UFO buffs.

SEASON 5 EPISODE 16 remastered color ABC/Paramount dvd box set.
