A great live performance of England's top rock act
deepion11 April 2004
Quite simply, Muse are one of England's top rock acts of the last decade and with their new album, Absolution, out now and going stellar, they show no signs of slowing down. Most people who know about Muse already know of this DVD/VHS release and should own it already. It is a top performance by one of the best live bands ever (as agreed by fans and music journalists alike). People outside of Europe (except a few certain places like Japan) will not know much of these songs and the band unless they have acquired Muse imports (for example, Absolution, which was released after this performance, is the only official American release). Needless to say, if you don't like Muse, or don't know who they are, then this is not for you, but for fans of Muse or of music in general, this is a must purchase. The actual recording of the performance is top notch, and the DVD boasts a great sound quality. The songs are work of art and come mainly from Muse's first two studio albums and b-sides. If you want more information, check out the bands website.

Not quite as good as the Absolution DVD, but still awesome.

Live from The Zenith in Paris, British rock band Muse perform brilliantly in-front of a packed arena. Songs are from their first two albums, Showbiz and Origin Of Symmetry.

Critically acclaimed for their live performances, Muse do not disappoint here. Some almost insane displays and technically brilliant music from all three guys, this is definitely worth buying if you are a Muse fan or a fan of rock music. They are without doubt the best British rock band of the last 6 or so years, and one of the best live bands in the history of music. They are my favourite band, and are technically far superior to their contemporaries, such as Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian or Kaiser Cheifs.

Overall, a great DVD, disc 2 is nothing to rave about though, a couple of neat little features, but nothing special.

If you like this, then you will love the Absolution tour, it has some newer songs, and give a better (which is very hard to do) performance than on here, a definite recommendation.

Muse on top of their game

I consider myself a massive Muse fan. I first watched them live in Stuttgart in a small club in 2001 and became basically addicted to them and their music. So this is not a neutral review (which you can very rarely find on imdb anyway).

Looking back at this performance, it is especially noticeable how 'raw' it feels compared to their more recent shows which are also always great, but seem more choreographed. This is only three guys on stage, playing songs from their first two albums and developing an unusual energy. There are small mistakes in some of the songs which only add to the raw power and authenticity they had at that time. I was really worried about Matt Bellamy because he seemed so fragile and sang, played and screamed his soul out every evening. Fortunately, my fears were proved false.

It's also nice to see them play songs they very rarely play live today like 'Showbiz', 'Hyper Music' or 'Megalomania'. So if you want to find out where Muse came from before they were catapulted into mainstream, see this! It is musically vastly superior to their later 80s-pop-influenced work. I hope they will return to being just an epic kick-ass rockband in the future. With this band, you never know what happens next.
