extreme low-budget masterpiece
emir-hc27 May 2006
I have seen this TV-movie about 10 years ago when it was frequently emitted on the Macedonian national TV channel, so I forgot it's content and didn't seek for it in recent times when I became a movie nut:)

According to me this is a movie recommendable only for the inhabitants of Skopye and people who lived in here for some time. The main reason I am telling this is the very specific thematics of the movie which cannot grow to a degree of concern or concentration of many people watching it. Many guys watching it will be startled by many mistakes, illogical deeds, non-movie absurd made by the crew and actors but that is not the main point because the justifying point is that this is nearly a ZERO DOLLAR MOVIE and the actors did it for free.

The story is quite interesting telling a life of a mediocrity who earns bread for his family by driving a cab. The comical aspect is the bohemian life of the protagonist who besides being aged and poor succeeds in affecting and dominating other people and having relationship with other women. This conglomerate has been told in an excellent language by the director. The tragical aspect are the inconveniences he faces by living this kind of whimsy life by his family, friends and whole surrounding and there you come across the inflection point of the story.

I congratulate all the crew and actors for being able to keep my mind on this work although sticking no money into their pockets.

All at all, this is a nice movie, but I must be real and say that it is been made for a limited specter of public.

A Great movie providing a different outlook on the life in Macedonia

A interesting and quite intriguing movie which describes the life of a troubled family in Macedonia. The story is quite unique and it gives a pretty coherent message followed by a enjoyable style of expression by the Directors of this film. The scenes when Kuplung (Jovica Mihajlovski) buys kebabs to his sons girlfriend and later on try to engage in sexual activity with her are simply unforgettable, the expressions used in that scene can be even heard quoted among the youth in Macedonia. An impressive fact about this movie is its straight-forwardness, providing a lucid delivery style which is ought to carry a message with deep meaning which is presented in a way that allows it to be easily understood. I recommend it to everyone.

It is not a comedy

Warning: Spoilers
I can't say that the film is a masterpiece, but it can be counted as one of the better Macedonian films. The story starts with Cole, a taxi driver, having a short dialogue with a foreign customer, and then the story takes us back to a part of Cole's past and continues linearly from there. The film is placed in the comedy genre, which is not at all, and there are scenes that are difficult to watch. Although some may find some of the dialogue humorous, which I don't, I doubt that this film should be regarded as a comedy in any way. There was nothing funny about Kumplung assaulting and, in the end, raping his wife and his son shooting him over it. Perhaps I would have enjoyed the film more if I had known I would be watching an intense drama rather than a lighthearted comedy. Actually, I kinda feel traumatized because of this.

Personally, I really detested Kumplung's character, and unfortunately, there are too many Kumplungs in our society and too many marriages like Kumpling and Stojna's. A Kumplung is a scum to society, and he truly deserved the ending he got. The character of Stojna is a representation of a classic Macedonian housewife. She is truly a wonderful woman, but she is a victim of her loyalty and devotion, and she must endure all the pain and rot in her inferiority because she is a housewife. And like a good housewife, she ends up taking care of the immobile Kumplung, who previously beat her, had lovers, manipulated Cole's young girlfriend, who could have been his daughter, he was a terrible father, and the list goes on. As far as I was concerned, he should have been thrown into a river.
