What a film! A masterful work that imbues you to it through its realism. It is always in people's nature to put down great things and to pick apart or sometimes just be plain mean. No matter what any of the critics write, this film is utterly fantastic, an eye-popping cinematic treat. The pragmatic may think this one is overly dramatic; the restless may find it too long. None of this, however, detracts from the fact that it retains a lasting appeal as one of the crowning cinematic achievements of its time. I like it enough, but I don't think it's great or all that really good. I was deeply impressed, but from an artistic standpoint, there were some plot elements I didn't think were necessary.
