Tyson's Run (2022)
7/10
Almost but not quite there

Warning: Spoilers
There is so much to like about this movie. I adore the cast and think they all do a great job of giving good performances. I love the idea of a son trying to earn his father's respect and the idea of a father trying to come to grips with his failures as a father and mother trying to be strong for both of them. There is a lot to like about this movie, but where it loses me is the ending.

Spoiler alert don't go any further if you don't want to know the ending.

It's not my movie so it's not fair for me to say what should've happened, but I will tell you what I wanted to happen. I wanted. Tyson to understand that crossing the finish line is a victory. Finishing a marathon is a victory. You don't have to be in first place you don't have to be top 10 in your age group the accomplishment itself of training and meeting a goal a victory that all of us need to remember to shoot for. By having the race and the way it does I feel like it cheapens the story ends with a Bible verse, which is good but I like this one a little bit better. Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us" (Heb. 12:1).
