I thought I could say the plot was risible, but then I realised that would suggest there is something to laugh at.
It's simply, utterly ridiculous and miserable to boot. There are no thrills because the stupidity of the plot beggars belief.
Yes there is good acting. Unfortunately that is not enough to carry the film.
Actors say it is difficult to assess how good or bad a film is during filming. However I am amazed that performers of the calibre of Jessica Chastain and Anne Hathaway could read the screenplay and think that anything remotely watchable could arise from the drivel that was being offered to them and even commit to making the film.
