'Rye Lane' was a fantastic directorial debut from Raine India Allen-Miller. I will absolutely keep an eye out for her future projects!
There was some fantastic misé-en-scene in this film! It is one of the most visually interesting ones I have seen in seen in a while that does not rely heavily on green screen and CGI. Furthermore, there are so beautiful and uniquely presented camera shots. One of my favourites was within the cinema location.
The two leads- played by David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah- had some fantastic chemistry with each other. You really believe that these two characters get whisked away into this one-night date. Personally, I really loved the representation of gender in this film. It is refreshing to see a male character express some emotion and desire for love.
Please check this independent film out if you get a chance! It really deserves some more attention.
