Privilege (1967)
7/10
An interesting but flawed film

Warning: Spoilers
I like this film, I have watched three or four times, so it must have merit. But on the other hand its a bit of a failed experiment. The film could be remade today and have the same juandice view of the music industry, but I don't want to give out any spoilers.

My main gripe is Jean Shrimpton can hardly be heard. Whilst her acting is great for the part, you just can't hear what see is saying.

I like the George Bean group doing the upbeat rock versions of hymns, but the way they have long hair and a tonsure doesnt make sense. You are supposed to have a shaven head to give up male vanity, but then they go and have long hair for fashion. Weird.

And then there is the big religious meeting where they have come to see Steve perform rock music and there are all these brass bands around. Brass bands are good, but not rock and roll!

The end is very poingnant, but given Steve has sold millions of records, he cant be forgotten that easily. Or can he? Like a million boy band records sold over time, maybe the answer is yes

Recommended but with reservations.
