Absolutely amazing even all these years later but I realize how much I dislike Beatrice's character

watched this as a child with my mother when it first came out. I loved the costumes and the music from the era.

All these later I re-watched the series recently (I don't think I ever saw the first few episodes after their father died).

Such a shame the series ended on a cliffhanger and the BBC did not commission another season, because that would toe up loose ends.

All the characters are amazing. You have the ones you love: (Evie, Jack, Madge and Tilly), the ones you hate: (Alexander, Grace, Larry, Florence, that horrible Celia Romford women along with some of the other snobby HoE clients). And then there is Beatrice / Bea...

Re-watching the series, I realize what a selfish character she is compared to her sister. For example, when Tilly's baby dies and Bea goes to see her, all Bea can do is talk about how scared she is and puts the situation all about her. Also with Jack and his views on fair wages and hours for blue collared workers, when HoE is 'exposed' as a sweatshop, due to Larry and Grace's fraud, Bea gets annoyed because Jack continues to stick to his views. I also feel Evie is much much much more stylish then Bea, who often looks look an old maid.

Don't get me wrong, Bea is a hard worker and both sisters have successfully created something from nothing. You can understand why at times, Bea is very protective of her sister, husband and her business.

Still an excellent series.
