TOO MANY Flashbacks !!!!!!!!!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 2 was MUCH better than this one. Last episode the story flowed. But this episode came to a complete standstill at least three times. One primary factor that ruined this episode was the excessive use of flashbacks.

Episode 3 was unnecessarily ponderous and bogged down for two distinct reasons: 1) the flashbacks 2) lengthy expository dialogues. The interesting thing is there were a couple of truly worthwhile moments buried amongst all of the crap writing.

For example: the conversation about how ALL humans are creatures of habit INCLUDING THE MISSION COMMANDERS was a stroke of genius. Also the moment after Frank assaults his commanding officer. He and David confront the ugly truth that their mission is nothing but a pack of lies. That was great television. But instead of building on that realization, the writers veered off into more superfluous nonsense.

Moreover, there was a scene of excessive violence with Frank beating someone to a bloody pulp. The gore was gratuitous and did not advance the plot.

So this episode was ODD. From the standpoint of pacing and plot, it was atrocious. And violence for violence sake desensitizes the viewers to the point where it becomes meaningless. YET there were a few moments that were truly brilliant. Hopefully the next episode will be better.
