Why did David's character have to become weaker

Warning: Spoilers
Overall, I always enjoyed Numb3rs. However, I noticed after season 1 they significantly changed David Sinclair's character. He became weaker, nonrational, not as versatile, not as vital, and overall became "smaller" for Colby and other nonblack characters to appear stronger, more intelligent, and more capable.

A few examples include in season 1 The Uncertainty Principle episode, David was able to spot and shoot hidden bank robber in the midst of a chaotic situation. However, in season 2 the Backscatter episode, the criminals shoot David in the shoulder. Yet the white LAPD Detective Gary stands directly up and doesn't get shot, giving the image of a bad a$$

In Season 1 the Sabotage episode, David is able to disarm a bomb because he states he was posted in Tel Aviv. Yet after Colby arrives, David's character was rewritten to appear as if he had nothing to contribute in comparison to Colby.

Unfortunately in real life, there are times when some that want black people to "shrink" themselves or not display their intelligence so that other races can appear more intelligent.
