Clown (I) (2020)

A bit messy up close.

Quentin Blake's Clown (2020) -

The storyline had very obvious similarities to that of 'Toy Story' (1995) and the book of 'The Velveteen Rabbit'. And while I felt that these all featured the important message that children should be taught to look after their toys and to treasure them as a way of learning how to love, I did find this specific production a little bit dull.

I loved the bright colours and the well chosen music though, but it was all just a bit everyday and lacked that certain something special that could be found in the likes of 'The Snail And The Whale' (2019), 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' (2019) and of course 'The Snowman' (1982).

And I don't know if it was like it in the original book, but it almost felt that they'd added the Christmas element for the sake of releasing it at that time of year and to spice the story up a bit. I've only just realised that this was the case for 'The Snowman', but it felt so right for that production.

It was inoffensive and very young children would probably enjoy its shiny colours and pleasant noises, but it might not impress those aged around 8 and above. My 72 year old Mother loved it though.
