I usually don't favour movies where kids or teenagers gain powers and then become heroes, but I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Dark is Rising'.
Alexander Ludwig stars as Will Stanton, who discovers on his 14th birthday he is part of a group of warriors who fight against evil. Being The Seeker, he has five days to find six signs, which will grant The Light power over The Dark (good old-fashioned good vs evil). Ludwig is well cast as Will. I enjoyed his mature attitude, and he manages to convey so much through facial expressions.
The antagonist is a villain called The Rider (well portrayed by Christopher Eccleston), who also wants the signs in order for The Dark to reign. Will is assisted by The Old Ones, who help him is his fight against the evil.
'The Dark is Rising' boasts fantastic visual effects, and a very good, action-packed climax. The film also has a rewarding ending. I really enjoyed it.
