Sweeping animation and gorgeous music, but not very well constructed movie

Let's start with the characters. The villain is very cliched and confusing. It makes no sense why he's "bad". He wants the horses. Alright, how is that a bad thing? I also don't understand why only the white people are villainous and the Indians are all innocent. I thought the film would've been better without these cookie-cutter villains.

The songs were so unfitting and at times risible. Every time Spirit feels something or is doing something, they play a song by Bryan Adam that matches Spirit's situation. Totally unnecessary. Also, Adam's voice was very inappropriate for the score. Someone with a musical theater style would've been better. But again, there was no need for songs. Maybe one credits song was enough.

Now with the good things. I thought the film was excellently crafted as the animation went. The music by Hans Zimmer was simply amazing. That 'love theme' of Spirit and Rain had to be one of the best love themes I've heard in a long time. All in all, average film. Even at 80 minutes, it did feel slow and sluggish at times. Because nothing significant ever happens. The film was just a succession of beautiful animation.
