Fright Night (2011)
6/10
Good enough remake.

'Fright Night' (2011) is a remake of the classic 1985's 'Fright Night', which happens to be one of my all-time favorite horror movies.

I know I shouldn't compare remakes to the original films. They are remade for the new generation. In 'Fright Night's case, the dialogue has been adapted to be sexual, obscene and crude, in order to aim it at a late teen/early twenties demographic, so they can relate to the characters. I found the dialogue a bit distasteful at times. But this was also to allow for humor - since this is a horror comedy. Nothing else is really funny - apart from comic relief characters Ed, and Peter Vincent.

Speaking of Peter Vincent, this character has also been given a facelift and been modernized, as well, to appeal to a young demographic. (Remember, in the original film Peter Vincent was played by Roddy McDowell, who was 57 at the time). David Tennant, who portrays Vincent in the new version, was only 39 at the time). I must be honest, I didn't like this new look Peter Vincent, who was far too comical. Yes, McDowall was also comical, but he was naturally funny, where Tennant tries to be funny. Personally I think Russell Brand would have been a better option for the role).

Colin Farrell stars as Jerry, the vampire next door. This delicious looking specimen does a great job as Jerry (although he doesn't quite have the charm Chris Sarandon had in the original film). Oh, look out for Chris Sarandon in a small role as one of Jerry's victims.

I enjoyed Anton Yelchin as Charlie Brewster, and Imogen Poots as his girlfriend, Amy. The film features some amazing visuals, and a good climax. If not to be compared with the original, this is a good film in its own right. If I absolutely have to choose my favorite between the two, it would be the original.

Would I watch it again? Yes.
