Absolutely N O T HI N G happens in this movie to make you "feel" any emotion. I never felt sad, happy, or cared about ANY of the characters. About the only thing I felt was sick to my stomach watching mother sabatage every opportunity in order to keep him at home with her. I love old black & white dramas so I know it's not me. The best I can explain what this movie is about is: A spoiled brat son of a hard working minor father & weird hateful mother can't find any satisfaction in life. Be it selling his art, finding a career, or relationships with woman. His life remains in turmoil because of an unhealthy closeness to his mother who isn't happy in her marriage and uses him to make herself happy. He paints a portrait of his Dad & puts it in a gallery. An art critic buys it & offers to pay for him to go to art college in London. Son is ecstatic & goes out celebrating with his girlfriend. While he's out, Mother gives Dad some sickening verbal abuse & fights with him until he locks her out of the house. When son comes home & finds Mom outside it makes him afraid to leave her alone with Dad. He gives up a once in a lifetime offer for an education in London. He takes a clerk job instead. He also breaks up with his sweetheart since childhood because Mom constantly tells him quote "nothing can come of it -she won't stop until she has your soul" implying the girl is too religious. Of course he gets involved with a married woman at work. The husband beats him up & she eventually ends it with him & stays with her husband. None of this is portrayed in an interesting way. It just makes you sick seeing this spoiled brat give up everything for his jealous weird mother. I can't give any reason to see this movie. It's a waste of time.
