When his wife and daughter are killed in a hit and run, Leo goes into attack mode. He has been so involved in these kinds of cases and knows how emotions can destroy. He is correct that the police aren't revealing everything, so he goes rogue. This is all connected to an identity theft ring and we will find out more in the second episode. I agree that Leo's actions sort of separate the case from normal forensics.
