Silent Witness: Ghosts: Part 1 (2005)
Season 9, Episode 1

Intensely depressing, but well made.

I've always considered Silent Witness to be a show that on form has the ability to shock, move and entertain. Ghosts certainly manages to shock, but I question whether it can entertain as it is ultimately depressing, and so sad. Up until this point Leo's character had been a little nondescript, that's not to knock Gaminara, as he's an excellent actor, it's just that Burton completely drowned out his character. This episode effectively hits the reset button for Leo, he's now plunged into trauma and given a huge back story, with all that's happened to him, the character now has a history.

The side story seems almost pointless as Leo's tragedy drowns the rest of the goings on out, Nikki is once again the shining light, but I must commend the performance of William Gaminara, he's excellent.

It's decent viewing, but too grim. 6/10
