Populaire (2012)

A fun charmer
2 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
What makes Pupulaire stands out is the fact that a relaxing, fun and highly charming film, can come out from such an utterly ordinary story, perhaps even dull.

On the surface, we have a boss who develops an unusual obsession with an employee and does all he can not too sleep with her but...ensures she wins a typing championship. In all seriousness, how enticing does this story sound?

Yet, if the tale is moved back to the 1950's add an awesome cast with the psychological backbone attached to the story, it comes out as a true charmer.

The boss in our story, who appears to lack any compassion and comes across as outright misogynistic, is the product of a childhood that it was all about being first and the best, thus feeling that he can be loved and love a woman who has such aspirations.

A seemingly ordinary story, an unusual love tale that will win the audience over by the abundance of charm and 'au naturelle' tone of hunour. This is not a laugh out loud kind of movie but it does not matter; it is an alluring, captivating tale.

By ensuring the audience remained tuned throughout this turned out to be an unexpected treat.
