Step Up 3D (2010)
7/10
Poor story but great use of 3D
11 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie uses 3D to it's advantage and should only be seen in 3D. Unlike the previous 2 Step Up's the female character is not the main lead. Instead it focuses on " Moose" who was in Step Up 2 and is going to college for engineering, promising his parents that his dancing days are over. He went to college with his best friend Camille, who was in Step Up but was not in the previous one. Moose gets noticed by the leader of the "Pirates" who live in, what appears to be a very expensive warehouse which is also a club. You find out that they cannot pay their rent and may loose the building unless they win a dance competition. They think they've found the answer to winning in Moose and Sarah, who comes to this club numerous times and is convinced to join their crew in winning the tournament. The previews make it seem like Sarah is the main character in this film but she is not. She is only part of the big twist and does not really do much for the film. The dancing in this film is good but seems computer generated at times. The use of 3D makes the film work as it makes the dance sequences seem very cool. This is probably the first film i've seen that really benefits from 3D as most of the other films just use it as a marketing gimmick. Overall if you really liked the first 2 step up's you will probably like this one.
