Review of Oklahoma!

Oklahoma! (1955)
2/10
Hopeless
2 August 2009
"Oklahoma" have been not ever showed in my country. So I bought the hard-to-get Fox DVD to see it. The surprise was that it's the Samuel Goldwyn production. A nice surprise. And here's the next, unpleasant surprise: Everything fails here: 1) The direction: Zinnemann didn't know how to figure the cinemascope view. That's why we see dancers without heads and legs! Where the photographer was to show the director how to use the brand new system then? 2) The lenght: nothing happens here, everything is very static and the movie needs a solid cut 3) Agnes de Mille should be burned alive!: you can expect a crowd of flying cowboys with their lassos and you finally obtain nothing but 2 sequences of the lazy, noninventive "move". 4) Well, okay, there are at least 3 beautiful songs here, but it's not much for over 2 hours of monotony.
