A faithful retelling
2 January 2007
If you have seen the classic cartoon version of this tale, then you will not find much different here. Except of course for the fact this is a live action film. Overall the film entertains all ages. Technology has allowed for the story to be brought to life and it is done quite well. All vocal performances are spot on. There isn't much you can do to the story that hasn't' already been done and here they just concentrate on faithfully recreating the tale we all know.

Dakota Fanning does a workman job here. It isn't close to her best stuff, but considering she is the busiest actress in Hollywood, she probably fit this in during a break from her other films. The human actors really are not focused on here, it is the barnyard characters that take center stage. The vocal talent for Wilbur is great, I do not know who did it, but they did a great job. Julia Roberts is fantastic as Charlote. As I indicated before, all those who supplied voices here do a great job. Buschemi as the rat is spot on casting.
