Takeshi's view of East and West
3 August 2001
Beat Takeshi's face is a reason to watch any of his films. In this one he uses it frequently to create humour. A laconic Western hero from the East in the West.

Although it is his first American co-production, a number of bizarre Japanese Yakuza-traditions are shown, and beside them the urban American slum-habits. Takeshi connects these two cultures and makes the best of it: an interesting, melancholic but highly violent and therefore humorous story. For me, it was a little confusing sometimes, but that's always the same with Mafia films. Besides, this is one of few Japanese movies with good actors.
