The original was one of the best films ever made, it was that good. This wasn't as good, but it could have been. The appeal of the first film was the historical figures & time travelling, which could let your mind wander off. You couldn't really do that here, and death, hell & marsians aren't as interesting subjects. It was still enjoyable & had some great scenes, but was more suited to younger viewers whereas the first was for all ages.
