The Constant Gardener (2005)
thinker
This film really took me by surprise. I was not expecting for it to be so powerful. The plot was really well crafted the twists were well planned and kept me guessing. The acting was great. I really felt for the characters and some of the moments were absolutely heart breaking. It also made me step back and take a look at another culture. Living in America it is so easy to forget the strife that many people face everyday. I was really concerned about the subject matter. It made me really want to get involved. There are so many things going wrong in the world right now and this movie made me feel like if I could just dedicate myself to one cause, then I might be able to make a difference. If you like movies that make you think. You will definitely like this movie.
Mallrats (1995)
glad i saw it
As far as Kevin Smith movies go, this is one of my favorites. It's really funny, it has a great slightly cheesy plot, and most of all it has great characters. Jason Lee as Broody the smarmy comic book loving guy with a lovable asshole quality was great. I love the pointless arguments he gets into about the cookie stand in the mall and the kid on the escalator. I also love Jay and Silent Bob they are a dynamic duo of in this movie. I've never been to a flee market as crazy as the one in this movie, but I hope to someday! The Brenda part was classic, and I could relate to the whole magic eye thing. I've tried many a time to see that 3-D picture with out avail. I think this is a great movie and I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It made me laugh it made me cry (jk) ha ha. It was an entertaining film!
Trainspotting (1996)
great film
I've never thought about doing heroin before, but it is weird how this movie almost makes it seem like it is OK. I guess it is because the story of the characters is so endearing you don't really think about it is about a pack of virtually useless junkies. I think the acting is great. The toilet scene with Ewan McGregor is classic. It is probably one of the most disgusting things I have ever scene on screen. The scene where the two guys are talking about their girlfriends and the two girls are talking about their boyfriends at the same time is really well done. There are a lot of little nuances that make this film great. The baby is the worst part. Every time I watch that part I hate it, I always want to fast-forward through it. The music in the film is great. A soundtrack I can definitely rock out to. I think Scottish accents sound really crazy. I can't even begin to imitate it. When spud has his job interview I can't understand a word he is saying. I notice something new every time I watch this movie, it's always enjoyable and it always makes me say no to drugs!
Hustle & Flow (2005)
gritty tale of the hood
Hustle and Flow is a gritty story about the Memphis hood. I Thought that the feeling of having an absolute need to express yourself really came bursting threw, the the story moved a little slowly. I think Terrance Howard put in a great performance, his strife and feeling were very believable.I liked the song; I thought it was catchy. The character development was a little weak, I would have liked to have seen more of a back story for the three hookers. The characters and the acting were all good, but since the plot struggled along it was hard to fully appreciate them. One of the coolest parts was how they set up the make shift recording studio and I was able to admire the balls -to -the- wall attitude that the characters had about making music and chasing their dreams. I think this is worth seeing, but it drags a bit.
The Abandoned (2006)
good choice
I feel as if I made the right choice by seeing this movie. I saw the trailers and thought it look decent. After seeing the movie I was really impressed. There have been so many crappy movies lately to be honest I didn't set my bar that high, but I think this movie will set a high standard for horror movies to come. It takes the classic story of a haunted house and makes it interesting again. The two main characters are lost souls searching for their past. They end up being haunted by versions of themselves. With some creepy twist and some in-your face gore this movie makes for an interesting flick. The acting was good, believable. I could feel the tension.I think the best part was that the mood of despair was carried out through the whole movie. From beginning to end there is a looming gloom in both the visuals and story of the film. I liked it a lot. I thought the voice over was a little corny but a good way to tie up some loose ends. The voice was pretty creepy so that was good to. I'm glad there is a movie about adults out there. It seems like casts are getting younger and younger. All and all I am glad that I had a chance to see this movie in the theaters.
