The Andromeda Strain (2008)
Worth watching
It seems many of the reviewers for this movie have never seen a made-for-TV mini-series before. This movie may not have the huge explosions (there are minor explosions), the exceptional computer generated graphics (a little bit dodgy) and the first-rate acting (not bad - and you can play "which Sitcom is the actor from?"), but it has a interesting story that will keep you entertained. There are a few superfluous scenes that were obviously included to make the movie the required 3 hours, while also some bit-part characters seemed a little unnecessary, but generally it does not take away from the pace of the movie. If you like made-for-TV movies, and are not put off by a lower budget film and less than perfect acting, then this is a highly entertaining mini-series adaptation that is worth your time.
Music in High Places: Collective Soul: In Morocco (2001)
Acoustic Rock at its best
This episode in the "Music In High Places" travel series is a terrific example how good rock music can sound when translated into acoustic performances. Any fan of Collective Soul's numerous hits will enjoy this documentary-style film from a four-day trip to Morocco resulting in with various live, acoustic songs interwoven with the awe-inspiring sights and sounds of Morocco. These sights include the Marrakech bazaars, the Sahara Desert and the ruins of a 12th century casbah. Definitely worth a look. Songs in this include Heavy, Why Pt. 2, Vent, The World I Know, Gel, December, Heaven's Already Here, Over Tokyo, She Said, Perfect Day, Shine, and After All.
House of the Dead (2003)
This is about zombies, death and destruction. Not Art.
I find it curious that this movie is rated so badly. I won't insult your intelligence and tell you it's terrific, but it's a zombie movie based on a shoot-em-up game. What do you expect? As far as Horror-Zombie movies go, it's definitely quite entertaining. The low rating tells me one thing. People who obviously don't like zombie movies still decided to watch it. And then felt the need to comment on it. In a nutshell if you like mindless action, lotsa guns and the odd walking undead being splattered over your screen then it's well worth a watch since it delivers on all accounts. On the other hand, if you are insulted by the idea that dead people can come back to life and teenagers can instantly become martial arts and gun experts, you're probably in the wrong place.
