Truly Enchanting
12 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie when I was 15 and equally love it now that I am close to 27. This movie is refreshing compared to the romantic comedies we are bombarded with today. For today romance of this kind is branded to be 'unrealistic' which makes me love this movie even more. She never slept with him before she married him, never had an ex, didn't turn into a drunk or drug addict, never had to talk incessantly about her career, no ridiculous night club scenes, relied more on her intelligence and wit then her looks and what was wonderfully refreshing was prince charming was exactly the same. They really don't portray couples like this anymore. Which makes us think they don't exist........but they do.. bravo for Ever After!

Don't be side tracked by the obvious twist.......there is more than one

Warning: Spoilers
I know there is already a spoiler warning up top but I am going to warn you again. Don't read this because I am going to give everything away.

I had this movie all wrong I will admit at the start I didn't get it and I was angry but after having a chat with my friend who went with me we both gasped when we realised what happened. The twist wasn't that he was the inpatient (seriously I think everyone saw that coming from a mile away!) the twist was the intervention actually worked. He was cured, he deliberately made it look like he relapsed because he did not want to live with the memory of what happened to his family. He blamed himself for ignoring that his wife was clearly unstable. The line "would you rather die as a good man or live as a monster" Depicted he wanted to die as a good man (lobotomized) then live with the memory of what happened. Also the symbolism of fire and water tells you when he is hallucinating (fire) and when he is lucid (water trickling through.) The delusion he concocts to save himself from accepting the truth is that his wife died in a fire. All the people he talks to surrounded by fire is a hallucination – the woman in the cave, the patient in the cell, the scarred faced man who he thinks killed his wife, the car blowing up – all a delusion. The water symbolizes reality trying to break through. He is afraid of water – ( and rightly so!His kids were drowned, they all died in front of the lake.) Also at the start he says he gets 'sea sick' – he is mortally afraid of water. He has to swim to get to the lighthouse.

To truly get the best affect of this movie you have to see it more than once. (I have only seen this once but I promise you I will see it again)

I think John Anderson from the Wall Street Journal got it right when he says the film -

"requires multiple viewings to be fully realized as a work of art. Its process is more important than its story, its structure more important than the almost perfunctory plot twists it perpetrates. It's a thriller, a crime story and a tortured psychological parable about collective guilt."

Not bad at all
21 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie certainly was a surprise. The only reason why I sat down to watch it was because of Matthew Fox. I myself do like sport but not really a big fan of football.

I didn't think I would enjoy this movie. I really can't understand the American obsession with college football and how small towns seem to revere their young football players as demigods. I am sure the same amount of reverence would not be given to the chess club or the school band. But the shocking loss of so many lives in one accident is a tragedy in any sense of the word - football team or not.

The sheer tenacity and perseverance of Jack Langley (Matthew McConaughey), Red Dawson (Matthew Fox) and the very likable President Dedmon (David Strathairn) really brought the heart into this movie.

The movie sends a good message in - if you want to achieve the improbable then you will have to take the road less traveled. This is portrayed through the rise of the new Marshall University football team after losing most of its much loved players, coaches, officials and fans in the horrific plane crash.

I am still not a fan of football and this movie certainly won't make you into one either but it will make you believe that anything really is possible.

Tin Man (2007)
8/10
Very entertaining and refreshing. I probably will not watch the 1939's version again. When compared to Tin Man it seems out dated and dull.

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed Tin Man. It was like a breath of fresh air. Even though I loved the original version (Judy Garland)- and I am not a fan of remaking the old classics. The 1939's tale of OZ is slowly becoming outdated. Yes I love 'Somewhere Over The Rain Bow' and Judy but it has been a while since I have been able to watch it from start to finish. Always switching it off after about 40 minutes. I enjoyed the more action oriented and futuristic edge of Tin Man. Zooey Deschanel was simply a delight to watch. I was also delighted to see Neal McDonough play Tin Man - a good guy with a fierce attitude. There was much more depth to the characters in this version of OZ. Instead of the stereotypical good guy and bad guy persona it showed that beings of any kind are able to have both elements within their personality (Az and Cain) Also Cain's portrayal of lacking heart in his judgment had more of a purpose and made more sense than in the 1939's version of a Tin CAN! lacking a physical heart (?????). It was very clever to make the cowardly lion an empath who sees the world through his heart instead of with his mind. In Tin Man he had a reason to be scared, for Azkadellia was using his kind to torment them mentally into seeing the future. Even though the tale of OZ has had a much needed update in this series its central theme and values still exist and in my opinion does a better job in portraying this to the audience than any other version. For me Tin Man is a more entertaining, smarter, visually stunning version and I probably will not be able to go back and watch the 1939's OZ after watching this mini series and it has a superb theme song to boot.

Stargate Universe (2009–2011)

This is Stargate! Dear GOD bring back Atlantis
9 December 2009
I will not be adding anything new to this review. There are 183 reviews here basically saying the same thing. We are loyal to Stargate and that is the only thing that keeps us watching SGU.

Brad Wright and Robert Cooper can you see what is going on at all? Have you seen the ratings? I am sure you have. Do you still think SGU is a success? Why did you drop Atlantis? The fans who have been loyal to your franchise for 15 years feel pretty burnt right now. Honestly what on earth were you thinking canceling Atlantis which I dare say was one of Stargate's most popular show (I love SG1 as well)and replacing it with this abomination. I honestly hope this series fall flat on its face and I think it just might.
