Viktoria (2014)
Sundance World Dramatic Film
Viktoria is an ambitious, fully conceived and developed first film. It portrays the lives of three multi-generational women connected to one another by little else than birth. Concurrently the journey mirrors the history of everyday life in Bulgaria under communism and after its fall.
The muted color pallet of the film, the aesthetically stark cinematography is complimented by the music. The brevity of words between these women adds to their isolation from one another. The monotony of every-day life, the isolation, the lack of connection between mother and daughter, the absence of any hope but to escape one another, the wretchedness of life is thoroughly achieved.
A beautiful and highly symbolic film of great beauty and quietness.
The Fall (2006)
visually stunning
I was totally unprepared for the visual feast and the enthralling narrative, the words of an adult as imagined by a child. I just saw this movie and can hardly wait to see it again. It beckons you to return, perhaps over and over. My only complaint, the too-tied-up ending giving little credit to the intelligence of the audience. Since this takes less than five minutes of the film's duration, it is scant criticism. The title characters draw you immediately into their lush mental fantasy which serves one's purposes and allows the other to be transported. Together they lead the audience on a journey spanning the globe and their disparate mental landscapes.
Bajo California: El límite del tiempo (1998)
one of the best movies I have seen since 1998 when I viewed it at the Sundance Film Festival.
I have been trying to find this film on DVD since it's premiere at Sundance in 1998. I have contacted Sundance with no success. I have also tried to find a release in Mexico to no avail. I also tried emailing the director, but do not know if he received. Please, there seems to be enough interest that a DVD with English subtitles would be profitable.
This film is not only cinematographically beautiful, but the imagery and story haunting as well.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone that could give me some answers as to DVD release.
