Mandy (2018)
The downslide of Cage's career
Firstly I would like to say "What the heck I've just watched". The movie is just a mishmash of weird cinematography and colors, with a bit of animation thrown in just to add to the confusion. The story has been done before, a man's wife is murdered by an evil cult leader and her husband seeks revenge. I'm really struggling to find the right words to review this movie I haven't seen a movie like this in a long time and I don't mean that in a good way. I really don't know what the director/producer was trying to achieve. Nicolas Cage has done some bad movies in the past year or so but this actually has to be his worst movie to date. his character Red Miller goes on a killing after the murder of his wife, he suddenly turns from an ordinary lumberjack to a killing machine even forging his own weapons. The chemistry between Cage/Miller and his wife Mandy Bloom played by Andrea Riseborough is zero, this woman was so wooden she would give Pinocchio a run for his money. It all turns into one big bloodfest, with Miller killing all involved in his wife's murder and even taking out the four motorbike demons, yes, we have demons as well. I wouldn't recommend this movie
The Nun (2018)
Worth a watch
This movie, although I enjoyed it could have had so much potential to be very scary, take the Nun from the second Conjuring movie, sent shivers down your spine. In the Movie, The Nun, she wasn't as scary. The acting was good but the story could have been a lot better by delving into the story of Valak a demon who takes possession of a Nun when an exorcism to seal a portal to hell ( in a monastery) goes wrong.
The ending is not very clear, we thought the demon was sent back to hell at the end of the movie after a fight with our lead character sister Irene and Frenchie a man who helped her and father Burke defeat Valak, however, we see as the trio ride away from the monastery Frenchie rubs his neck and a upside down cross is embedded in his skin. The movie moves on years later to the Warrens giving a lecture and showing the class a movie where Frenchie is possessed by Valak who wasn't sent back to hell. It does make me wonder how could Valak use the Nun's body in the Conjuring 2 when the demon jumped into Frenchies body the Nun ( the host body) died, the demon needs a living host, however, it is certainly worth a watch.
Angelica (2015)
Intriguing
The movie is not a ghost story but is quite intriguing. It explores the morals of sexual behavior in Victorian England and the main character Constance who after a difficult childbirth is discouraged by her doctor's to have any more children even to go as far as not having sex at all. Its seems she slowly goes insane but very overprotective to- words her daughter. She sees germ like creatures floating around her daughter's room which only she can see and almost burns down her house trying to destroy them. Is it the guilt of not having a sexual relationship with her husband that driving her to invent these creatures? It is a very strange movie which you're going to enjoy or hate I personally enjoyed it. Constance's final act of madness in which she makes love on the bed with the creature ends in her husband's death. It's not a fast paced movie but you do get caught up in the life of Constance and her slow descent into madness or another scenario can she actually see the germ like creature and nobody else can, you'll have to decide.
Hereditary (2018)
Disappointing
I've been looking forward to seeing this movie and what a disappointing movie it turned out to be. The Family just didn't jell, there was no connection to each other, no closeness. The actors where all miscast, the father played by Gabriel Byrne was boring, Toni Collette who played his wife just didn't seem the motherly type. The children played by Alex Wolff and Milly Sharpio could use a few more acting lessons,
The story-line was pathetic it would have been better if it was just a ghost story. I wouldn't recommend you watch this at the cinema, just don't waste your money if you really want to see it wait for the DVD but don't expect to be scared these scenes are few and far between in fact if you have watched the trailer that all the frights you're going to get.
Ghostland (2018)
Excellent
I was quite surprised by this movie, I thought it was just going to be a simple ghost story, how wrong i was. Its a good strong cast and good acting, The story is Superbly written and original, i haven't come across a story-line like this. I don't know what movie the people who give this film a low mark was watching but its intense and keep you on your toes,
