Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
A movie on another level
In my opinion: this movie was outstanding. The visuals blew my mind, to the point where I had to adjust to them at the beginning. There was not a single scene that I didn't find riveting; the time just flew by. So many emotional scenes. I almost cried! I found Sigourney Weaver's performance utterly transcendent - give her an Oscar please!!! All of the acting was super and hers was phenomenal. The movie is, as I said, on another level, beyond my expectations and I will highly recommend to everyone to go and see it. I'm so excited for Avatar 3, 4 and 5. And new movie legacy hopefully.
The music was also great and I think that really added to the ambience. I loved the water theme too. So brilliant.
Spirited (2022)
Okay
I was excited for this movie. I love a christmas movie and a musical so the fact that both would be combined sounded amazing. But I feel that the music wasn't very good. None of the songs felt emotional or left an impact on me personally. The three main stars were good and the movie's saving feature, in my opinion. It felt a little long and the plot wandered before getting to the main point. Overall, I feel this movie could have been so much more but it was ultimately quite forgettable. On the other hand, it isn't the worst Christmas movie I've seen by any means and does have some entertaining moments, which makes me feel like it's not a waste of time to watch. In sum: it's okay, but a little bit of a let down.
Causeway (2022)
Slow but so meaningful
This movie is slow to begin with, but it's so, so meaningful and worth the watch. It's amazingly made - stunning visuals, great writing and directly. But most of all, the performances. Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding throughout. She really deserves an Oscar for this. I loved it. It really reflects trauma and the ongoing recovery in such a perfect and meaningful way. I loved how they didn't make drama just for the sake of it, whereas every scene has a purpose. The decision to make it all in the present day really added to this. It's a quiet movie, but it says so much. It also represents a wide range of people too. Super!
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Surprisingly loved this
I began with low expectations because of the internet hate. But, I loved it! I was hooked the entire episode, which, to me, is the most important measurement of a show or movie. I enjoyed the humour, super acting, fight scenes, feminist themes and the CGI was far better than expected. Let's not be so quick to judge? It's great!
House of Gucci (2021)
Lady Gaga SHINES
Lady Gaga is amazing in this movie. She makes every scene she is in watchable. Some of the other performances didn't seem as strong to me, but her brilliance makes up for it.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
It's OK.
This movie is OK. In my opinion, it would be more enjoyable if you haven't read the book, as it depicts the major plot points, but I felt it failed it explore the emotional undertones of the story. For example, almost all of the poetry was missing. There was very little illustration of the racism and other forms of prejudice and discrimination. Also, although it was a minor issue, why was Tate's hair not curly? And Kaya's accent was dodgy. There also wasn't enough of the marsh or the wildness, which made the book so wonderful.
The rest of the movie was fine.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
It gets better
I didn't enjoy the first two episodes, but I kept watching. Then I actually really enjoyed the rest. I like that they tried to be more inclusive and share more than one culture than White America. It's worth watching if you're a real Marvel fan.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Superb show
This was an amazing show. Outstanding writing, visuals, acting and music. Great new characters too. It seems there is a group of "Star Wars fans" who are simply determined to be enraged by any new Star Wars movie or TV show. Well, you won't ruin it for the rest of us. I loved this and think it's definitely worth watching.
Jane the Virgin (2014)
Wow
This is just simply one of the best shows I have ever seen. Every episode is amazing. The acting is incredible, especially from Gina. I have watched the entire thing at least four times and each time I notice new things. I really recommend this show.
Life & Beth (2022)
Enjoyed this
I enjoyed this show. It actually made me laugh out loud at times, which takes a lot! It's refreshing and well acted. It's a welcome change of pace for Amy who plays a more realistic character. It's charming and enjoyable.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Gives you what you'd expect
I really enjoyed this film. It gives you exactly what you'd want from a Jurassic Park sequel. Yes parts were slow and the editing felt a little strange in my opinion but overall I found this very enjoyable. Bryce Dallas Howard in particular was particularly impressive - she's a fantastic actor and elevated the scenes. It was great to have the original cast too. Worth watching!
The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021)
Jessica Chastain is outstanding
This film is amazing. Jessica Chastain's performance left me breathless. Amazing. I also loved the LGBTQ+ perspective. I hope she wins the OScar for this film.
Red Sparrow (2018)
Jennifer Lawrence Shines
This was a fantastic movie. Jennifer Lawrence was incredible.
Very entertaining.
Does contain a lot of violence and is a little too long. But definitely worth the watch.
