Disregarding the plot, a very fun movie to watch
28 August 2021
Yeah, don't read too much into the story. At least they tried to somewhat tie into the original series which makes it a lot more bearable than for example Pyramid of Light. They bothered to get all the original voice actors (I watched the Japanese Version with English subtitles) and pretty much nailed the atmosphere of the show (ignoring the new art style). It's also very friendly towards people that didn't bother with the spin-offs, leaving out any gimmicks that came out after 2004 (Synchro, XYZ and so on). And of course the plot rides a lot on nostalgia and fan service, bringing back most of the original cast and connecting directly to some side characters of the original show, which is, in my opinion, not a bad thing.

But honestly, they tried to let the plot sound way more complicated than it actually is. It's not deep, there are plot holes, characters know things they shouldn't, I felt no connection to the newly introduced characters and once you understand what drives the main villain, you get annoyed how complicated he explains his reasons. The movie drags a bit in parts of the first to second act, but the rest is really dynamic and never once I felt bored.

The animations are on point, duels never felt so fluent and honestly were one of the biggest plus points of the movie. But even those are sometimes overshadowed by a new kind of duel that has a gimmick that literally had no impact at all.

All in all I subjectively had a very fun time in an objectively mediocre movie, but for fans of the original show I can definitly recommend it!

Sadly just a mediocre movie
8 March 2018
After the very decent 3rd Thor movie I expected a lot more. I took a friend of mine with me that doesn't have a clue about anything MCU related and he was bored. A lot. Very predictable plot, the worst CGI since The Incredible Hulk and tons of tons of plot holes.

Black Panter feels like a recycled Thor: Ragnarok; The legacy of a father that has made mistakes, an evil relative and a fight to win back what was lost. There are no stakes in this movie, you know how it will turn out the second something is happening, killing any suspense. The movie is full of interesting concepts, but they just get left behind. At least the set design is really nice, you want to see more of it.

This is by far the most overrated movie in the MCU. But most User Reviews reflect this already so I won't go into detail. The culture, the characters and Wakanda itself are so extremely interesting and you want to create a connection to them, but the weak plot and the lack of stakes just stop you from feeling anything toward this film, other than maybe the feeling of a wasted opportunity.

People have to stop driving on the Bay Hate Train
1 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Admittably, the Transformers Franchise got worse with every movie since its really interesting first one. But Age of Extinction has to be seen as a reset of the universe. It got rid of most of the really cringy and annoying assets like Sam and some of the annoying perverted Transformers. It doesn't try to be very deep and interesting, the plot is simple and easy, a bit too long, yes, but at no point I got annoyed by the story. Most of the characters, especially the autobots have destinct roles, they don't have to be introduced, they're part of the team and do their job. Gelvatron has a really nice plottwist and some scenes are decently funny. The whole movie has some Logan vibes to it, of course without very deep conflict and not near as much emotion.

I guess people still go into the movies and watch Transformers with some kind of expectation about a surprisingly good plot or expect that Bay suddenly changes his style from brainless explosion slaughter to something deep. But if you watch this film with no expectations, or at least want some action and good fighting for an evening with friends, you will be pleasently surprised. The film delivers exactly this, Good Action.
